UNITY (a reminder)

Psalm 133:1 Behold, how good and how pleasant [it is] for brethren to dwell together in unity! Oneness, this is Christ purpose for us as believers. John 17:21 That they all may be one; as thou, Father, [art] in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me. How can believers be one? When we have the same purpose and goal. We look unto the Heavenly Father. We walk in love, for without love, unity cannot be achieved. 1 Peter 3:8 Finally, [be ye] all of one mind, having compassion one of another, love as brethren, [be] pitiful, [be] courteous: For love is the message from the beginning, it is the essence of the law. For without love, we are already guilty of breaking the law. Grace is an offspring of love. 1John 3:11 For this is the message that ye heard from the beginning, that we should love one another. Do the brethren of today walk in unity? This is left for us to answer. For where there is NO love, there cannot be unity. Ephesia

FULFIL YOUR PART

Genesis 10:8-10 Cush was also the ancestor of Nimrod, who was the first heroic warrior on earth. Since he was the greatest hunter in the world, his name became proverbial. People would say, “This man is like Nimrod, the greatest hunter in the world.” He built his kingdom in the land of Babylonia, with the cities of Babylon, Erech, Akkad, and Calneh. As we saw few days ago, it is important to make your impact that you may have a good record when your genealogy is read.  We cannot all have the same calling or strength, however, in whatever the Lord has blessed us with, we must use rightly to profit. Listen, God gave every human a gift/talent, the best thing to happen to a man is to discover it/them early, nurture them and begin to use them to do exploits. I always tell parents who listen that the best gift they could give their children is to help them discover their talent on time, that they may perfect it/them for exploits. Even in the church, gifts cannot be taken for granted, it is a

MAKE YOUR IMPACT

Genesis 10:1,5 This is the account of the families of Shem, Ham, and Japheth, the three sons of Noah. Many children were born to them after the great flood. Their descendants became the seafaring peoples that spread out to various lands, each identified by its own language, clan, and national identity. When you go through the descendants in a genealogy, you get to a point when you have to stop. That point in the lineage is when someone leaves the norm to redefine things either good or bad. To be great you have to grow out of childish sentiments such as tribe, race, language, religion or even traditions to do exploits. In the church, there is actually one family, however the above sentiments and other sentiments, keep the supposed believers locked away from the glory of God. Ephesians 4:3-6 Make every effort to keep yourselves united in the Spirit, binding yourselves together with peace. For there is one body and one Spirit, just as you have been called to one glorious hope for the futu

CARVING OUT YOUR TOMORROW

Genesis 9:24-25 When Noah woke up from his stupor, he learned what Ham, his youngest son, had done. Then he cursed Canaan, the son of Ham:  “May Canaan be cursed!   May he be the lowest of servants to his relatives.” I always tell those who listen that our actions and decisions today will definitely affect our tomorrow. For we are what we are today because of what we did yesterday and where we will be tomorrow is a function of what we do today. This goes even as far eternity, our actions here on earth will definitely affect our eternity. Revelation 20:12-13 I saw the dead, both great and small, standing before God’s throne. And the books were opened, including the Book of Life. And the dead were judged according to what they had done, as recorded in the books. The sea gave up its dead, and death and the grave gave up their dead. And all were judged according to their deeds. Looking at consequences on earth, we see that generations have found themselves in inconvenient situations becaus

RENEWED COVENANT

Genesis 9:1-3 Then God blessed Noah and his sons and told them, “Be fruitful and multiply. Fill the earth. All the animals of the earth, all the birds of the sky, all the small animals that scurry along the ground, and all the fish in the sea will look on you with fear and terror. I have placed them in your power. I have given them to you for food, just as I have given you grain and vegetables. The flood was over, the family was saved, it is another beginning. The Lord had to give a new covenant. It starts with the blessings, the scope of authority then instructions. Here God actually gave man the authority he lost. Dominion over all the earth as a representative of God. However, sin was still a problem! Man was still faced with the choice of righteousness or sin. God further assured man that flood will not destroy the earth again, He did not stop there He placed a sign as a reminder. Genesis: 12-13,15 Then God said, “I am giving you a sign of my covenant with you and with all living c

A NEW BEGINNING

Genesis 8:21-22 And the Lord was pleased with the aroma of the sacrifice and said to himself, “I will never again curse the ground because of the human race, even though everything they think or imagine is bent toward evil from childhood. I will never again destroy all living things. As long as the earth remains, there will be planting and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night.” As we go on in life we get the opportunity of starting afresh, a new beginning to help us start again. How we take advantage of it matters. An Igbo proverb says that the time a man wakes up is his morning. This implies that your starting point may not be the same as your neighbour, however how well you use it will determine how far you will go and how much you accomplish. Ecclesiastes 3:11 Yet God has made everything beautiful for its own time. He has planted eternity in the human heart, but even so, people cannot see the whole scope of God’s work from beginning to end. All is not revealed to

AFTER THE PROMISE

Genesis 8:6,10,12 After another forty days, Noah opened the window he had made in the boat After waiting another seven days, Noah released the dove again. He waited another seven days and then released the dove again. This time it did not come back. When the Lord gives you a promise, you are expected to go to work, not just lay idly waiting for it's fulfilment. Truly most of God's promises come with instructions. However, even when there seems to be no direct instruction, you continue in faithfulness, doing your work as the process leads to full manifestation. Habakkuk 2:3 This vision is for a future time.  It describes the end, and it will be fulfilled.  If it seems slow in coming, wait patiently, for it will surely take place.  It will not be delayed. In this popular verse in the book of Habakkuk, the wait does not mean idling about but believing and walking through the process. The Lord tells you as a child: "I will make you a great doctor". The process includes yo

LORD REMEMBER ME

Genesis 8:1 But God remembered Noah and all the wild animals and livestock with him in the boat. He sent a wind to blow across the earth, and the floodwaters began to recede. The greatest experience a man can have is to be remembered positively by the Heavenly Father. Someone might say, oh God is omnipotent why does He need to remember me. Well understand that God is not limited in time. He infact made time and put us humans into it. So, while you count seconds, minutes, hours, days, years etc, He is not limited by time. See some scriptures: Psalms 90:2-4 Before the mountains were born, before you gave birth to the earth and the world, from beginning to end, you are God. You turn people back to dust, saying,  “Return to dust, you mortals!” For you, a thousand years are as a passing day, as brief as a few night hours. 2 Peter 3:8 But you must not forget this one thing, dear friends: A day is like a thousand years to the Lord, and a thousand years is like a day. Isaiah 57:15a The high an

WHERE ARE YOU?

Genesis 7:21-23 All the living things on earth died—birds, domestic animals, wild animals, small animals that scurry along the ground, and all the people. Everything that breathed and lived on dry land died. God wiped out every living thing on the earth—people, livestock, small animals that scurry along the ground, and the birds of the sky. All were destroyed. The only people who survived were Noah and those with him in the boat. Noah and those with him in the boat survived the flood.  Where you are matters. Your position at every point in time will determine how situations and events affect you. If you are present at the place of favour, you enjoy it's blessings, however if you are found in the place of trouble, you could very well share in it. This is why the believer must be led by God's Spirit, that we may know when to go, stop, wait or retrace our steps. The God we serve is the author of time, He knows the end from the beginning thus He knows how to guide us that we may no

JUDGMENT DAY

Genesis 7:10,12 After seven days, the waters of the flood came and covered the earth. The rain continued to fall for forty days and forty nights. Finally the day came when the waters came to destroy every living thing on earth, judgment had come. How foolish Noah would have looked when he walked blamelessly on the earth avoiding all the evil others did. Making sure his steps were orderly and caring so much about God to ensure he did what pleases Him. Luke 17:26-27 “When the Son of Man returns, it will be like it was in Noah’s day. In those days, the people enjoyed banquets and parties and weddings right up to the time Noah entered his boat and the flood came and destroyed them all. They most likely would have taunted him, telling him what he was missing. Moreso when he began building the ark, oh how they must have laughed. He most likely had employed some of them to help do the construction. The same way people may think you stupid when you walk in righteousness, live blamelessly and w

AS HE COMMANDS

Genesis 6:14-15,22 “Build a large boat from cypress wood and waterproof it with tar, inside and out. Then construct decks and stalls throughout its interior. Make the boat 450 feet long, 75 feet wide, and 45 feet high. So Noah did everything exactly as God had commanded him. Walking with God requires a key element, that element is Obedience. Obedience is the key factor to work with God. People wonder why they are not too close to the Heavenly Father, they hear of those in scriptures who walked closely with Him and long to have the same opportunity but sometimes it is for their own good that they are not too close. I remember when some of our youths many years ago asked why they could not have that special relationship with God, like Moses, Elijah and some of those of old enjoyed. I told them that it could possibly be for their good.  For, Luke 12:47-48 “And a servant who knows what the master wants, but isn’t prepared and doesn’t carry out those instructions, will be severely punished.

ONE MAN STANDING

Genesis 6:9 This is the account of Noah and his family. Noah was a righteous man, the only blameless person living on earth at the time, and he walked in close fellowship with God. Every being on earth was corrupted, none was found clean. Yet one man stood blameless. You may not get the picture of it, until you try to compare with yourself. You are standing strong because you have encouragement from the church, your brethren, televised or social media ministries are available everywhere. There is something or someone who encourages you. Listen, Hebrews 10:25 And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near. For Noah, there was no such gathering. Read again: Genesis 6:11-12 Now God saw that the earth had become corrupt and was filled with violence. God observed all this corruption in the world, for everyone on earth was corrupt. Do you understand? It means that when Noah gets up in the mo

IN THE MIDST OF JUDGEMENT

Genesis 6:5-8 The Lord observed the extent of human wickedness on the earth, and he saw that everything they thought or imagined was consistently and totally evil. So the Lord was sorry he had ever made them and put them on the earth. It broke his heart. And the Lord said, “I will wipe this human race I have created from the face of the earth. Yes, and I will destroy every living thing—all the people, the large animals, the small animals that scurry along the ground, and even the birds of the sky. I am sorry I ever made them.” But Noah found favor with the Lord. Man disappointed God, he wrongfully chose disobedience in doing exactly what the Lord said he shouldn't do. The only law! This singular err drew man away from God. This is one reason heavenly beings could dare interact with the females. Reading from some non-canonised text, we see that most of the abominations man started doing were influenced by this beings interacting with man. They gave man knowledge of terrible things t

Punctuating the Genealogy

Genesis 5:22-24 After the birth of Methuselah, Enoch lived in close fellowship with God for another 300 years, and he had other sons and daughters. Enoch lived 365 years, walking in close fellowship with God. Then one day he disappeared, because God took him. Reading through the genealogy, the descendants of Adam starting from Seth, we see the names of those who came through the lineage. It remained a list of names and the years the lived till we get to Enoch it had to be punctuated because Enoch walked so much with God that God took him literally. The question now comes to us. When the account of the work of believers are read for our generation, will we be mentioned? Can there be a pause, a punctuation to talk of our impact or walk with God? What is your record? Have you fulfilled any purpose? Does the heavens recognize you? Will there be a continual manifestation of your works to outlive you? 1 Corinthians 3:13 But on the judgment day, fire will reveal what kind of work each builder

DON'T WASTE YOUR YEARS

Genesis 5:1-2,5 This is the written account of the descendants of Adam. When God created human beings, he made them to be like himself. He created them male and female, and he blessed them and called them “human.” Adam lived 930 years, and then he died. Imagine we still had this number of years they had to live on this earth, will we make a difference or will we watch as the time rolls by. David said: Psalms 90:12 Teach us to realize the brevity of life, so that we may grow in wisdom. We have some who lived few decades yet their impacts have travelled generations blessing us up till today, while some who lived longer have no testimony of impact. It is up to us to make the most of each day we are given on earth. We must understand that our eternity depends on it. Romans 14:12 Yes, each of us will give a personal account to God. If our lives on earth is read as a book, the way we read those recorded in scriptures, what will be the content? Don't waste your life, hating, envying or ba

THE REPLACEMENT

Genesis 4:25-26 Adam had sexual relations with his wife again, and she gave birth to another son. She named him Seth, for she said, “God has granted me another son in place of Abel, whom Cain killed.” When Seth grew up, he had a son and named him Enosh. At that time people first began to worship the lord by name. The record of Cain and Abel, gives us a clear exam of what the tree of the knowledge of good and evil did to man (though it may not be literal). If you have been reading my devotionals over the years, you notice my emphasis on the power of choice. We are now faced with choice, to choose between good and evil.  We have had a choice from the beginning, yes, that is why the enemy could convince Eve to eat of the fruit of disobedience. So, Cain chose evil, for God specifically warned him, yet he was adamant. His wrong choice led him to depart from the presence of the Lord, and as we saw yesterday, his generation grew in the wrong direction following his wrong path. Today we read o

YOUR LEGACY

Genesis 4:23 One day Lamech said to his wives,  “Adah and Zillah, hear my voice; listen to me, you wives of Lamech.  I have killed a man who attacked me, a young man who wounded me. We see Cain leave God's presence because of sin. He started a family and as the generation grew, we see the repeat of Cain's error. Furthermore, the people did not call on the Lord. We must be careful what example we set for our children. What they see from us, be sure that they will multiply. Bad for bad or good for good. If you are known as the man with one bottle, know that your children may not be satisfied with one they will add to it. Genesis 4:24 If someone who kills Cain is punished seven times, then the one who kills me will be punished seventy-seven times!” Money is not enough, they must build character and know the Lord. We must give them good examples to follow. Words are not enough, what we show them by our own lifestyle matters. Proverbs 22:6 Direct your children onto the right path, a

DON'T CHOOSE SIN

Genesis 4:14,16 You have banished me from the land and from your presence; you have made me a homeless wanderer. Anyone who finds me will kill me!” So Cain left the Lord’s presence and settled in the land of Nod, east of Eden. Sin is never an option, do not choose sin, do not succumb to it's pressure, the battle begins and ends with the mind. Man sinned and he was banished from the garden of Eden, he was also removed from God's indwelling presence. However, it was a gradual separation. Man did not literally die immediately but he died slowly. Adam lived up to 930 years. Remember as we saw in scriptures Cain and Abel brought their gifts to God. The relationship was still there. However, sin was the killing factor, it was the separation mechanism. It was all about choice, God warned Cain yet he wouldn't listen. His action brought about his separation from God. As we will see tomorrow his descendants also followed his footsteps, man was drifting away from God. Listen to the pr

BRINGING IT OUT

Genesis 4:10 But the Lord said, “What have you done? Listen! Your brother’s blood cries out to me from the ground! The way we respond to situations is what defines our true character or nature. A proverb says that when the storm blows, the backside of a chicken is exposed. This is interpreted as - challenges brings out the hidden character of a person. Cain's evil nature was made plain when he killed his brother. Remember that the Lord warned him: Genesis 4:7 You will be accepted if you do what is right. But if you refuse to do what is right, then watch out! Sin is crouching at the door, eager to control you. But you must subdue it and be its master.” Everyone of us must prove our inner nature and the storms of life will be the test. Do we submit to God's nature or to the flesh, which is corrupted. Galatians 5:16 So I say, let the Holy Spirit guide your lives. Then you won’t be doing what your sinful nature craves. For you walk in the Spirit even when it seems there is nothing

REJECTED

Genesis 4:4-5 Abel also brought a gift—the best portions of the firstborn lambs from his flock. The Lord accepted Abel and his gift, but he did not accept Cain and his gift. This made Cain very angry, and he looked dejected. When you read scriptures it gives you questions on some things which may not seem clear when you just read without, studying and meditating. Before all these prayer is needed. There is yet a difference between the physical and the spiritual though one affects the other. So, people may yet ask, "Why did God reject Cain's gift/sacrifice? Firstly let us look at the issue of giving, we see that giving to the Lord has been a good practice from the beginning. The Lord expects that we honour Him from what He blesses us with: Proverbs 3:9-10 Honor the Lord with your wealth and with the best part of everything you produce. Then he will fill your barns with grain, and your vats will overflow with good wine. All who walked with God from the beginning were good givers

YOUR MOTIVE

Genesis 4:3-4 When it was time for the harvest, Cain presented some of his crops as a gift to the Lord. Abel also brought a gift—the best portions of the firstborn lambs from his flock. The Lord accepted Abel and his gift, Our limitation most times is that as humans we cannot read the mind of others. We are limited to looking at the facial expressions, words or maybe experience from the individual for us to make our judgment. However with the Heavenly Father He reads our very motive. Remember what God told Samuel: 1 Samuel 16:7 But the Lord said to Samuel, “Don’t judge by his appearance or height, for I have rejected him. The Lord doesn’t see things the way you see them. People judge by outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.” Jesus also showed this very nature of the Father John 2:24-25 But Jesus didn’t trust them, because he knew all about people. No one needed to tell him about human nature, for he knew what was in each person’s heart. As Pastor Sam Adeyemi said some ti

BANISHED WITH LOVE

Genesis 3:23 So the Lord God banished them from the Garden of Eden, and he sent Adam out to cultivate the ground from which he had been made. So, Adam and his wife had to be sent out of their place of enjoyment to go face the toil of cultivating the earth. Previously they didn't have to till the earth or plant, the only had to tend and watch over it. There is an adage that says: "you don't know what you have till you lose it". Many have compromised relationships even marriage by heeding to a temporary pleasure or distraction. As wise believers we need to know the value of things. Jesus said: Mark 8:37  Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul? We must always count the cost so that we can make right choices. Better still have no choice. Selah! Yet in all these God still showed man love. Genesis 3:21 And the Lord God made clothing from animal skins for Adam and wife. They lost God's glory that covered them, God didn't leave them that way, he made clothe

THE VERDICT

Genesis 3:17 And to the man he said,  “Since you listened to your wife and ate from the tree whose fruit I commanded you not to eat,  the ground is cursed because of you.  All your life you will struggle to scratch a living from it. There is a repercussion for every action. We could try to give excuses, however one fact remains and that is - they were warned! Genesis 3:11 “Who told you that you were naked?” the Lord God asked. “Have you eaten from the tree whose fruit I commanded you not to eat?” There are so many warnings in scriptures that believers ignore they are recorded both in the new and old testament.  We cannot keep doing the wrong things then cry foul when the result is manifested. Proverbs 1:29-33 For they hated knowledge and chose not to fear the Lord. They rejected my advice and paid no attention when I corrected them. Therefore, they must eat the bitter fruit of living their own way, choking on their own schemes. For simpletons turn away from me—to death.  Fools are dest

DON'T FALL FOR IT

One way to lead someone into a trap is to ask a trick question. The lawyers would understand this, so they advice you not to answer. In assessment we are taught that questions are NOT meant to trick the candidate, but they are to be clear(unambiguous), concise and accurate. The enemy already knew what the instruction was, but he asked as if it did not: Genesis 3:1 The serpent was the shrewdest of all the wild animals the Lord God had made. One day he asked the woman, “Did God really say you must not eat the fruit from any of the trees in the garden?” Genesis 3:1  Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden? It was a trick question, it mentioned every tree to force the specifics from Eve. Listen, we must be careful of the conversations we allow. Moreso, the ones we allow in our mind. There is a lot released into the atmosphere by the powers that opera

MAN'S COMPANION

Genesis 2:19-23 So the Lord God formed from the ground all the wild animals and all the birds of the sky. He brought them to the man to see what he would call them, and the man chose a name for each one. He gave names to all the livestock, all the birds of the sky, and all the wild animals. But still there was no helper just right for him. So the Lord God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep. While the man slept, the lord God took out one of the man’s ribs and closed up the opening. Then the Lord God made a woman from the rib, and he brought her to the man. “At last!” the man exclaimed.  “This one is bone from my bone, and flesh from my flesh!  She will be called ‘woman,’ because she was taken from ‘man.’” Following God's order of things would have made all things good and perfect. However, in trying to explore and listening to the wrong leadings, man destroyed the good God made for him. In the verses recorded in Genesis we see that man named all the animals, however, though th

KNOW YOUR BOUNDARIES

Genesis 2:15-17 The Lord God placed the man in the Garden of Eden to tend and watch over it. But the Lord God warned him, “You may freely eat the fruit of every tree in the garden— except the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. If you eat its fruit, you are sure to die.” Everything has it's exceptions, it is good to always know where the boundary is. The question some used to ask is, "Why did God put that tree in the garden?". When you think of it deeply you will understand. I used to give this illustration as an example. The source of power to the house is electricity, when handled wrongly it could become a hazard. Going ahead to play with the fuse box when it is marked a "no access" is one's own decision to get into trouble. We cannot give excuses for temptation, we are to avoid and overcome it. Listen, your eyes, emotions and ego must be put into check, never make the error of thinking that you can live carelessly. Proverbs 22:3 A prudent person fores

WITHOUT HIM

Genesis 2:7 Then the Lord God formed the man from the dust of the ground. He breathed the breath of life into the man’s nostrils, and the man became a living person. Without the Heavenly Father all humans are meaningless, for we can boast all we can of who we think we are, what we have achieved, what we think we own or even how intelligent or influential we are.  However, immediately God's breathe in us is out, nothing is left for us on earth. Thus it is foolishness not to honour Him who gave us this breath. The life from His breathe is what keeps on earth, once it is out we have no right to stay on earth. Luke 12:20-21 “But God said to him, ‘You fool! You will die this very night. Then who will get everything you worked for?’ “Yes, a person is a fool to store up earthly wealth but not have a rich relationship with God.” So, before anything else each day, give God praise for the opportunity to see another day. All your desires, complains, work, celebrations, worry, rejoicing, goals

TAKE CARE OF YOUR ENVIRONMENT

Genesis 2:15 The Lord God placed the man in the Garden of Eden to tend and watch over it. There is this ideology about God taking control of all things that make some believers feel that they are not responsible for anything. I remember talking to a cleric of a certain sect concerning children and that every man who brings a child into the world is responsible for that child's upkeep. The cleric argued that it is God that gives children so the person do not need to worry about the child, just bring them forth and God will do the rest. Well the truth is that everyone is accountable for their action. Man was created to take care of their environment. Yes all good gifts come from God but it is given to us to take care of. Remember Christ's teaching on the parable of the talents: Matthew 25:14,19,23,29 “Again, the Kingdom of Heaven can be illustrated by the story of a man going on a long trip. He called together his servants and entrusted his money to them while he was gone. “After

PREPARED FOR YOU

Genesis 2:5-7 neither wild plants nor grains were growing on the earth. For the Lord God had not yet sent rain to water the earth, and there were no people to cultivate the soil. Instead, springs came up from the ground and watered all the land. Then the Lord God formed the man from the dust of the ground. He breathed the breath of life into the man’s nostrils, and the man became a living person. How loving our Heavenly Father is, He prepares the land before He sends us forth. Listen, Before man was placed on the earth, God prepared the land watered the ground, even when there was no rain, in preparation for man so that we can dwell in it comfortably. When God was to save the family of Noah He made sure the ark was well prepared and stocked, fully not penetrable by water before the flood came. The Lord prepared Egypt before time so that when Joseph landed the place of inheritance was ready for him. The Lord prepared Cannan as a land flowing with milk and honey before the children of Is

DAY OF REST

Genesis 2:2 On the seventh day God had finished his work of creation, so he rested from all his work. What does the day of rest teach us? The Heavenly Father had His rest period - you should too. Daily rest Weekly rest Monthly rest Yearly rest Rest from serving Rest from schooling Rest from childbirth Rest from working for someone (employee) Rest from secular work . . . The list is endless When exactly do you enjoy the fruit of all your toil? The second part of the rest the Heavenly Father talked about was "keeping it holy". We must separate ourselves for the Lord. You cannot be too occupied with the world that you forget your creator. Remember that we are suppose to return to Him. Matthew 10:32-33 “Everyone who acknowledges me publicly here on earth, I will also acknowledge before my Father in heaven. But everyone who denies me here on earth, I will also deny before my Father in heaven. If you don't have time for Christ Jesus the revelation of the Heavenly Father here on
