YOUR MOTIVE
Genesis 4:3-4
When it was time for the harvest, Cain presented some of his crops as a gift to the Lord.
Abel also brought a gift—the best portions of the firstborn lambs from his flock. The Lord accepted Abel and his gift,
Our limitation most times is that as humans we cannot read the mind of others. We are limited to looking at the facial expressions, words or maybe experience from the individual for us to make our judgment. However with the Heavenly Father He reads our very motive.
Remember what God told Samuel:
1 Samuel 16:7
But the Lord said to Samuel, “Don’t judge by his appearance or height, for I have rejected him. The Lord doesn’t see things the way you see them. People judge by outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”
Jesus also showed this very nature of the Father
John 2:24-25
But Jesus didn’t trust them, because he knew all about people.
No one needed to tell him about human nature, for he knew what was in each person’s heart.
As Pastor Sam Adeyemi said some time ago: said some times ago "What you want may be what God wants too, that does not mean you get what you want, your motive and His should also be the same"(paraphrased)
Always guard your heart, you can train your mind. You train by giving the Holy Spirit His way. He will work with the scriptures to make your mind like that of Christ.
Romans 12:1-2
And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice—the kind he will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship him.
Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.
So from our study today, we see that giving to the Lord is good, it has been so from the beginning. However, make sure your motive is right. Are you really giving to God?
Help us Good Lord.
He calls us blessed.
