WHAT MOVES GOD: IS IT SENTIMENT OR OBEDIENCE?

Hebrews 12:14-17 Work at living in peace with everyone, and work at living a holy life, for those who are not holy will not see the Lord. Look after each other so that none of you fails to receive the grace of God. Watch out that no poisonous root of bitterness grows up to trouble you, corrupting many. Make sure that no one is immoral or godless like Esau, who traded his birthright as the firstborn son for a single meal. You know that afterward, when he wanted his father’s blessing, he was rejected. It was too late for repentance, even though he begged with bitter tears. One error I see in some preachings of certain teachers/pastors is emotional blackmail or pure sentiment. A certain type of entitlement that makes any gullible follower assume that they can move God by their tears, sentiment or open show. Well, when you study the scriptures you understand the scriptures, for Samuel told Saul: 1 Samuel 15:22 But Samuel replied,  “What is more pleasing to the Lord: your burnt offerings an

THE DEADLY DISTRACTION

Proverbs 7:24-27 So listen to me, my sons, and pay attention to my words. Don’t let your hearts stray away toward her. Don’t wander down her wayward path. For she has been the ruin of many; many men have been her victims. Her house is the road to the grave. Her bedroom is the den of death. It takes one who is on the path of success to face a distraction, for you must have been on a definite course for you to face a distraction! The book of wisdom we looked at from scriptures talks of young men who walked by the house of an immoral woman. Proverbs 7:6-9 While I was at the window of my house, looking through the curtain, I saw some naive young men, and one in particular who lacked common sense. He was crossing the street near the house of an immoral woman, strolling down the path by her house. It was at twilight, in the evening, as deep darkness fell. We could see that the young man had no business being in that place neither was he supposed to be idling about at night. When there is no

WHEN THE RIGHTEOUS RULE

2 Chronicles 19:4-7 Jehoshaphat lived in Jerusalem, but he went out among the people, traveling from Beersheba to the hill country of Ephraim, encouraging the people to return to the Lord, the God of their ancestors. He appointed judges throughout the nation in all the fortified towns, and he said to them, “Always think carefully before pronouncing judgment. Remember that you do not judge to please people but to please the Lord. He will be with you when you render the verdict in each case. Fear the Lord and judge with integrity, for the lord our God does not tolerate perverted justice, partiality, or the taking of bribes.” Scripture records that the people rejoice when the righteous rule: Proverbs 29:2 When the godly are in authority, the people rejoice.  But when the wicked are in power, they groan. It refers to the actions the righteous takes, these actions is what results in the prosperity of the people. (In politics the person seeking to lead makes so many promises, when they event

THE CARE OF THE LORD

Psalms 31:8 You have not handed me over to my enemies but have set me in a safe place. The care of the Lord over us is something the powers that be wonder about. Why care so much for these people, what is so special about them? ". . .  what is man that thou art so mindful of him . . ." So we don't need to wonder when we face temptations or persecution for the enemy always wants to prove that we are not worthy. We must always prove that we are. No wonder Jesus taught us to pray thus: Matthew 6:13 And don’t let us yield to temptation, but rescue us from the evil one. I always say that it is a win-win for the believer, for scriptures records: Lamentations 3:22-23 The faithful love of the Lord never ends! His mercies never cease. Great is his faithfulness; his mercies begin afresh each morning. Glory to God. So we do not fret, for the Lord cares for us. Give Him praise this morning. He calls us blessed. Love @the watcher

CONSEQUENCES - REWARD!

Psalms 52:1 Why do you boast about your crimes, great warrior?  Don’t you realize God’s justice continues forever? One big error of any wise one is to envy the wicked. The destiny of the wicked is already defined - destruction. Christ asked a pertinent question: Mark 8:37 Is anything worth more than your soul? If the soul that sins will die, then the righteous soul will live! Again I say, do not envy the wicked. For those we look at and say, O these ones don't know the Lord, they are not accountable in their ways yet they seem to prosper. No, stop there, everything is not always what it seems, you do not know what pact they have agreed to, you neither see their heart or are with them when they try to sleep at night. What of their future?  Don't be deceived, most things we call wealth or prosperity today may just be mirages. Be wise. Remain in your path of righteousness, don't let anyone deceive you. Listen, being wise is not trying to take advantage of others, No. Instead y

THE KINGDOM OF GOD (The Multiplying Effect)

Matthew 13:31-32 Here is another illustration Jesus used: “The Kingdom of Heaven is like a mustard seed planted in a field. It is the smallest of all seeds, but it becomes the largest of garden plants; it grows into a tree, and birds come and make nests in its branches.” If you understand how God works, you will understand the multiplying effect. Genesis 1:28 Then God blessed them and said, “Be fruitful and multiply.  We see that God created one, then expected the one to multiply. God's kingdom is all about multiplying. John 15:2b and he prunes the branches that do bear fruit so they will produce even more. If you are not multiplying - bearing fruit, the consequence is being cut off: John 15:2a He cuts off every branch of mine that doesn’t produce fruit Look at another parable of Christ: Matthew 25:14,19,29 “Again, the Kingdom of Heaven can be illustrated by the story of a man going on a long trip. He called together his servants and entrusted his money to them while he was gone. “

WHO IS AROUND YOU?

Matthew 13:30 Let both grow together until the harvest. Then I will tell the harvesters to sort out the weeds, tie them into bundles, and burn them, and to put the wheat in the barn.’” The parable of the wheat and tares is one of Jesus's parable about the kingdom of God. It tells us literally about the separation at the end of times between the true believers and the agents of darkness planted by the enemy. However, let us look closely, how does it concern us? Who are the tares/weed? The Merriam Webster dictionary defines a weed as " a plant that is not valued where it is growing and is usually of vigorous growth, especially one that tends to overgrow or choke out more desirable plants" So there is an influence of the weed/tares on the good seed. A bad influence! Let us listen to Jesus talk about the weed again: Matthew 13:3,7,22 He told many stories in the form of parables, such as this one:“Listen! A farmer went out to plant some seeds. Other seeds fell among thorns tha

LEAD ARIGHT

John 16:13  "However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come. When Jesus said that those born of the flesh are flesh and those born of the Spirit are spirit. He spoke of the kind of life we would live day after day. It is a hard thing to be led by those who do not have the Spirit. The same way it is great to have a gifted, talented and intelligent boss who knows how to take decision, the same way every leader must know what is to be done at every point in time. If God is leading a lot of errors could be avoided. Thus it is good for a leader to be grounded in God's word, prayerful and a good listener. For if you are hard on listening, it is unlikely that you will hear the Spirit! Remember: The first person you lead is YOURSELF! How difficult it is to be led by those who are moved by their feelings, emotions or the atmosphe

WHO OWNS THE KINGDOM?

Luke 6:20 Then Jesus turned to his disciples and said, “God blesses you who are poor, for the Kingdom of God is yours. There is a need to understand the statement of poor in context with what Christ was teaching. Let us look at Matthew's accounts of the same verse: Matthew 5:3 “God blesses those who are poor and realize their need for him, for the Kingdom of Heaven is theirs. Very important, "their need for Him" Now let us understand something - human intelligence or do I say world intelligence teaches liberation from a sort of mental slavery. Now this slavery is a sort of rebellion from a sort of bondage, however let us look at it properly - who actually keeps man bound? The world system, governments, large organizations with policies that do not benefit everyone, that keeps a certain small group rich while the generally make the larger group poor. Let us go back to the creation twist: Genesis 3:4-5,7 “You won’t die!” the serpent replied to the woman. “God knows that you

WHEN "WHY" IS NECESSARY (a reminder)

1Peter 2:9 But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light; I have heard many times this phrase "Do not question God", I really do not understand what concept it was initiated from. Most likely when someone is bereaved and is in grief, it is believed that one shouldn't ask "why" the person had to leave at that time. One thing though is not argued. "We can question ourselves". Most people who breakforth and make an impact in life, most likely initiated their breakforth from the "WHY" One of the most important question one can ask is "Why am I here?" Exodus 9:16  "But indeed for this purpose I have raised you up, that I may show My power in you, and that My name may be declared in all the earth. Romans 9:17 For the Scripture says to Pharaoh, "Even for this same purpose I have raised you

GOD IN THE PSALMS(a reminder)

Psalms 108:5 Be exalted, O God, above the highest heavens.  May your glory shine over all the earth. David was one man who had an understanding of who God was in His time, his Psalms are full of revelations of the Father, the Son and even the Spirit. We cannot fully get enough songs from his worship and thanksgiving to God. No wonder then God said of him: Acts 13:22 And when he had removed him, he raised up unto them David to be their king; to whom also he gave testimony, and said, I have found David the [son] of Jesse, a man after mine own heart, which shall fulfil all my will. In Psalms 24 there was a declaration: Psalms 24:1 The earth [is] the LORD'S, and the fullness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein. Do you know that everything rests on these, every definition is all around or about God. I wrote on some atheist's platform recently that they are all still about God (they say there is no God, they are actually talking about Him!) the Psalms still have something

WE ARE BLESSED

Colossians 1:12 always thanking the Father. He has enabled you to share in the inheritance that belongs to his people, who live in the light. Have we thought of what would have been if the Lord had not given His life for us? We would have remained in ignorance and also be an easy prey for the enemy. 1 John 3:8b But the Son of God came to destroy the works of the devil. An identity was given to us, a restoration so that what the Lord gave us at the beginning can be restored. Ephesians 1:3 All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly realms because we are united with Christ. We also understand that it is a greater glory that we received. Luke 10:19 Look, I have given you authority over all the power of the enemy, and you can walk among snakes and scorpions and crush them. Nothing will injure you. The package of the Lord's blessings and assurances makes our existence worthwhile. So we must remember that we are

USE THE GOOD OPPORTUNITIES (a reminder)

Matthew 9:19-22 So Jesus and his disciples got up and went with him. Just then a woman who had suffered for twelve years with constant bleeding came up behind him. She touched the fringe of his robe, for she thought, “If I can just touch his robe, I will be healed.” Jesus turned around, and when he saw her he said, “Daughter, be encouraged! Your faith has made you well.” And the woman was healed at that moment. One of the greatest breakthrough people have gotten or missed is in taking advantage of opportunities. Jesus was on His way to heal the daughter of a ruler named Jairus, on the way this woman who had suffered for eighteen(18) years saw an opportunity and took it: Luke 8:43-44 A woman in the crowd had suffered for twelve years with constant bleeding, and she could find no cure. Coming up behind Jesus, she touched the fringe of his robe. Immediately, the bleeding stopped. The question is, was she the only one that needed help in that crowd, or in that locality? I do not

THE GOD FACTOR(a reminder)

One thing is obvious, we cannot close down all religions or even the sects that do not believe in God, no. They will keep existing through time, however through time the truth must stand secure. Thus instead of wasting time with those who do not believe we seek those who will and encourage those who do. 2Chronicles 20:6 and said: "O LORD God of our fathers, are You not God in heaven, and do You not rule over all the kingdoms of the nations, and in Your hand is there not power and might, so that no one is able to withstand You? One thing is certain, that in all that man has done and will do, the focus will be on the Alpha and the Omega. Be they believers, non-believers and even atheists it is all around the fact that it all begins with and ends with God. The reference point is always God, that He is, or He is not. That He wants it this way or He wants it that way. That there is only one way or that there are many ways. No matter the stand, it all circles around God. For those who h

THE WINDOW (a reminder)

1Corinthians 10:13  No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it. We have been taught that what happens isn't really the problem, what matters most times is the way we react to it. We are not to allow it break us. We cannot totally escape temptations. People could get us angry, disappoint us or we may make a mistake. The scripture says God would make a way of escape for us. It is that window period, most times the very moment before we react to the situation, it is at this point we have the opportunity to decide how we react to the situation. Should we be * agressive or friendly; * loud or quiet; * speak or be silent; * angry or calm; * vindictive or linient  That little open window could determine the series of events that would follow and could either save us a lot of stress or pain or cau

GOD GAVE CHRIST CHARGE

John 17:2-3 For you have given him authority over everyone. He gives eternal life to each one you have given him. And this is the way to have eternal life—to know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, the one you sent to earth. When we say we have faith, we mean that we believe in something and our belief causes us to take certain actions. The action of our belief in God is to accept His salvation plan. For a way may seem okay to man but it does not lead to salvation: Proverbs 14:12 There is a path before each person that seems right, but it ends in death. The problem people have with those who walk with Christ is the claim that He is the only way: Acts 4:11-12 For Jesus is the one referred to in the Scriptures, where it says,  ‘The stone that you builders rejected has now become the cornerstone.’ There is salvation in no one else! God has given no other name under heaven by which we must be saved.” However, they could not be many ways for then there will be confusion! So, what is

WHEN THE WORD COMES

1Kings 17:2  Then the word of the LORD came to him, saying, A lot of things could get us worried, the situation of the country, state of health of ourselves or loved ones, government policies, pandemics, economic challenges, the list continues. However, when the Lord intervenes in that situation the story changes because when the word of the Lord comes, every other News is secondary. All mouths are shut, protocols are removed. It just happens! Lamentations 3:37 Who can command things to happen without the Lord’s permission? I am not talking of empty promises or stirring motivationals to make us drop money or feel happy. Anyone can just come up with these things. I am talking of when the Lord really speaks - "thus says the Lord"! The only way to hear is when you are tuned to the Lord's frequency. There is a lot of noise in our world today, but our station must be tuned to the right channel. We must receive God's frequency "His Son" through "His Spirit&qu

FOCUS

Colossians 2:1-2 I want you to know how much I have agonized for you and for the church at Laodicea, and for many other believers who have never met me personally. I want them to be encouraged and knit together by strong ties of love. I want them to have complete confidence that they understand God’s mysterious plan, which is Christ himself. The focus of all things is Christ Jesus. Seriously all these other myths are from the powers that be, the enemy's work is to keep man bound in bondage away from the truth. Colossians 2:8-9 Don’t let anyone capture you with empty philosophies and high-sounding nonsense that come from human thinking and from the spiritual powers of this world, rather than from Christ. For in Christ lives all the fullness of God in a human body. So we must not loose focus, we must understand the difference between the secular and the divine, the world and kingdom of God. It is the same for every breakthrough and victory. On the pathway to excel a lot of distractio

Idols and gods

1 Corinthians 8:6 But for us, There is one God, the Father, by whom all things were created, and for whom we live.  And there is one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom all things were created, and through whom we live. If you read widely, you would know of the stories about gods who have ruled here or there, many before Christ was revealed and also after He was revealed. The question is, are they real? Let us listen to Paul: 1 Corinthians 8:4-5 So, what about eating meat that has been offered to idols? Well, we all know that an idol is not really a god and that there is only one God. There may be so-called gods both in heaven and on earth, and some people actually worship many gods and many Lord's We can see that Paul's answer is not total. If you read an earlier verse you see: 1 Corinthians 8:2 Anyone who claims to know all the answers doesn’t really know very much. Okay, so what does God say about them: Isaiah 46:5-8 “To whom will you compare me?Who is my equal? Some people pou

AFTER CHASTISEMENT, FORGIVE

2 Corinthians 2:6-8 Most of you opposed him, and that was punishment enough. Now, however, it is time to forgive and comfort him. Otherwise he may be overcome by discouragement. So I urge you now to reaffirm your love for him. We looked yesterday at Paul's counsel concerning the unrepentant brother, he was to be removed. Remember that it was not just about the person doing wrong or committing a sin but boasting about it and refusing to repent of it. 1 Corinthians 5:2-5 You are so proud of yourselves, but you should be mourning in sorrow and shame. And you should remove this man from your fellowship. Even though I am not with you in person, I am with you in the Spirit. And as though I were there, I have already passed judgment on this man in the name of the Lord Jesus. You must call a meeting of the church. I will be present with you in spirit, and so will the power of our Lord Jesus. Then you must throw this man out and hand him over to Satan so that his sinful nature will be destr

NOT BE PART OF YOU

1 Corinthians 5:2 You are so proud of yourselves, but you should be mourning in sorrow and shame. And you should remove this man from your fellowship. Evil cannot become good because everyone seems to accept it or ignore it. However, we see evil seemingly coming to stay because we do nothing about it, this is due to sentiment of many kinds, James wrote: James 2:1,4,6-9 My dear brothers and sisters, how can you claim to have faith in our glorious Lord Jesus Christ if you favor some people over others? doesn’t this discrimination show that your judgments are guided by evil motives? But you dishonor the poor! Isn’t it the rich who oppress you and drag you into court? Aren’t they the ones who slander Jesus Christ, whose noble name you bear? Yes indeed, it is good when you obey the royal law as found in the Scriptures: “Love your neighbor as yourself.” But if you favor some people over others, you are committing a sin. You are guilty of breaking the law. Paul was worried at a church in Cori

HAS GOD COMMENDED YOU?

2 Corinthians 10:12,17-18 Oh, don’t worry; we wouldn’t dare say that we are as wonderful as these other men who tell you how important they are! But they are only comparing themselves with each other, using themselves as the standard of measurement. How ignorant! As the Scriptures say, “If you want to boast, boast only about the Lord.” When people commend themselves, it doesn’t count for much. The important thing is for the Lord to commend them. "Has the Lord commended me?", this is an important question every child of God should ask.  It is not enough that people commend you, for can we really trust man's judgement? No! See the way Jesus looked at it when He lived as a human with us: John 2:23-25 Because of the miraculous signs Jesus did in Jerusalem at the Passover celebration, many began to trust in him. But Jesus didn’t trust them, because he knew all about people. No one needed to tell him about human nature, for he knew what was in each person’s heart. That is wisdo

THE RIGHTEOUS CORRECTION

Psalms 141:5 Let the godly strike me!  It will be a kindness!  If they correct me, it is soothing medicine. Don’t let me refuse it.  But I pray constantly against the wicked and their deeds. The better people we are today is as a result of the good corrections we received as we progressed in life.  David understood that counsel from the righteous may seem hurtful but it is better than receiving flattery from the wicked: Proverbs 27:6 Wounds from a sincere friend are better than many kisses from an enemy. One major reason for the failure of most African leaders is as a result of the type of people they keep around them. When you keep flatterers and liars around you, they never give you a true picture of things neither will they give you good counsel. Proverbs 16:10,12-13 The king speaks with divine wisdom; he must never judge unfairly. A king detests wrongdoing, for his rule is built on justice. The king is pleased with words from righteous lips; he loves those who speak honestly. Can o

I AM FOR CHRIST

1 Corinthians 1:10 I appeal to you, dear brothers and sisters, by the authority of our Lord Jesus Christ, to live in harmony with each other. Let there be no divisions in the church. Rather, be of one mind, united in thought and purpose. Paul was worried about the division in the church, believers were behaving like toddlers, this one will say I am for Pastor this, Bishop that, Prophet this , etc. Then comes the big bang question: 1 Corinthians 1:13 Has Christ been divided into factions? Was I, Paul, crucified for you? Were any of you baptized in the name of Paul? Of course not! As simple as the question is, it is both a factual and dangerous question. In as much as you do have a spiritual leader, mentor, teacher and the like, we must never forget who we truly belong to. See humans have created a lot of structures most likely for the good to keep things running. Religion itself is such a structure. I always repeat this, don't be deceived, God has no religion. No, ALL religions are

WHAT THE LORD DID

Psalms 65:2,5 for you answer our prayers. All of us must come to you. You faithfully answer our prayers with awesome deeds, O God our savior.  You are the hope of everyone on earth, even those who sail on distant seas. You know that the whole world has to answer to the Heavenly Father, no matter how far anyone tries to run from the creator, they will yet return to Him. Psalms 139:7-8,12 I can never escape from your Spirit!  I can never get away from your presence! If I go up to heaven, you are there; if I go down to the grave, you are there. but even in darkness I cannot hide from you.  To you the night shines as bright as day.  Darkness and light are the same to you. You can do all the analogies, study all the books, follow all the sects, analyze this or that, in the end it all comes to the same thing, we return to the creator to give account and receive our final verdict. We can never hide from God. He accomplishes this in Christ Jesus: John 5:21-23 For just as the Father gives life

THE FOUNDATION MATTERS

Proverbs 12:1-3 To learn, you must love discipline; it is stupid to hate correction. The LORD approves of those who are good, but he condemns those who plan wickedness. Wickedness never brings stability, but the godly have deep roots. The key to grow, develop and remain in wisdom is to love discipline. See, a child that has not been brought up in discipline will be attracted to the wrongs things, if they have fear it will be an unhealthy one for they have not been taught true restrain. Any society that promotes the false sense of liberty where discipline is expunged is building a generation of anarchy. Proverbs 13:24 Those who spare the rod of discipline hate their children. Those who love their children care enough to discipline them. It begins from the roots then eats into the society. We have a community that praises people who kill, steal, loot, create gangs/touts, pervert justice and do all sorts of frivolous things - giving excuses for them. They then cry and wail that they are s

REJOICE THE LORD IS KING

Psalms 124:8 Our help is from the Lord, who made heaven and earth. Rejoice, the Lord is King: Your Lord and King adore! Rejoice, give thanks and sing, And triumph evermore. Lift up your heart, Lift up your voice! Rejoice, again I say, rejoice! That is a hymn authored by Charles Wesley in 1744. What would have been our situation if Not that the Lord is on our side? The enemy would have really dealt with us: Psalms 124:1-3 What if the Lord had not been on our side?  Let all Israel repeat: What if the Lord had not been on our side when people attacked us? They would have swallowed us alive in their burning anger. Do you know how the enemies feel when they see us enjoy redemption and they cannot have a part in it. Psalms 8:4,6,9 what are mere mortals that you should think about them, human beings that you should care for them? You gave them charge of everything you made, putting all things under their authority— O  Lord, our Lord, your majestic name fills the earth! Why do you think the en

REMAIN IN HIM

John 15:3-4 You have already been pruned and purified by the message I have given you. Remain in me, and I will remain in you. For a branch cannot produce fruit if it is severed from the vine, and you cannot be fruitful unless you remain in me. Staying focused on the Lord is very important for the believer. For when you allow yourself to be cut off, you hear the noise of the world and could be easily distracted by the world's belief system thus losing touch with the divine reality. Romans 12:2 Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect. 2 Peter 1:4 And because of his glory and excellence, he has given us great and precious promises. These are the promises that enable you to share his divine nature and escape the world’s corruption caused by human desires. For the distractions are the enemy's available tools to

I WISH

2 Corinthians 6:2 For God says,  “At just the right time, I heard you. On the day of salvation, I helped you.”Indeed, the “right time” is now. Today is the day of salvation. How many times have we thought: "I wish I did this ten years ago, O how much better of myself I will be now" I am guilty here 😔 Listen, will you still say the same thing ten years from now? I heard a phrase from one of my teachers many years ago and I paraphrased and repeat it to all young people who seek my counsel: "What you are today is a function of what you did or did not do yesterday. Also what you will be tomorrow is also a function of what you will do or not do today!" So, we see that it is left to us, we canNot just wish it to be, we have to go further to plan it and implement it. Little steps that take us to the goal. Are you a parent and under your watch your children are making the same mistakes you made or even worse? Wake up, today is the day of salvation. Enough of the complain,
