NOT BE PART OF YOU

1 Corinthians 5:2

You are so proud of yourselves, but you should be mourning in sorrow and shame. And you should remove this man from your fellowship.

Evil cannot become good because everyone seems to accept it or ignore it. However, we see evil seemingly coming to stay because we do nothing about it, this is due to sentiment of many kinds, James wrote:

James 2:1,4,6-9

My dear brothers and sisters, how can you claim to have faith in our glorious Lord Jesus Christ if you favor some people over others?

doesn’t this discrimination show that your judgments are guided by evil motives?

But you dishonor the poor! Isn’t it the rich who oppress you and drag you into court?

Aren’t they the ones who slander Jesus Christ, whose noble name you bear?

Yes indeed, it is good when you obey the royal law as found in the Scriptures: “Love your neighbor as yourself.”

But if you favor some people over others, you are committing a sin. You are guilty of breaking the law.

Paul was worried at a church in Corinth who were comfortable with a member who married the father's wife, they even rejoiced over it:

1 Corinthians 5:1-2

I can hardly believe the report about the sexual immorality going on among you—something that even pagans don’t do. I am told that a man in your church is living in sin with his stepmother.

You are so proud of yourselves, but you should be mourning in sorrow and shame. And you should remove this man from your fellowship.

It is terrible yet the same thing happens in our times.

I remember a church member from an Orthodox denomination who had problems with her husband. The husband had gone into another woman and even brought her home. She laid complaint in the church and the priest intervened, however when the priest discovered that the man was a huge financial donor to the church he drew back, that was the end of the intervention.

If the man wasn't influential he would have been cautioned, however because he was a man of wealth, he was let off the hook, not just that, even honoured.

I always say that most of the problems we face even as believers are not from external forces we create them ourselves then we begin to cry to the Lord when it goes out of hand!

Let us listen to James again:

James 1:13-16

And remember, when you are being tempted, do not say, “God is tempting me.” God is never tempted to do wrong, and he never tempts anyone else.

Temptation comes from our own desires, which entice us and drag us away.

These desires give birth to sinful actions. And when sin is allowed to grow, it gives birth to death.

So don’t be misled, my dear brothers and sisters.

The same way it is with the church so also it is with the secular world, it is a shame for the church if truly it is what it should be, should be the example to the world!

Jesus proclaimed:

Matthew 5:13-14,16

“You are the salt of the earth. But what good is salt if it has lost its flavor? Can you make it salty again? It will be thrown out and trampled underfoot as worthless.

“You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden.

In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.

Is this true of the church today? Is this the testimony of believers?

Until we understand that those who choose the path of unrighteousness (sin) should not be a part of us, we will continue to have mixed multitudes and of course have bad influence on the younger generation.

Look at Paul's verdict:

1 Corinthians 5:3-7

Even though I am not with you in person, I am with you in the Spirit. And as though I were there, I have already passed judgment on this man, in the name of the Lord Jesus. You must call a meeting of the church. I will be present with you in spirit, and so will the power of our Lord Jesus.

Then you must throw this man out and hand him over to Satan so that his sinful nature will be destroyed and he himself will be saved on the day the Lord returns.

Your boasting about this is terrible. Don’t you realize that this sin is like a little yeast that spreads through the whole batch of dough?

Get rid of the old “yeast” by removing this wicked person from among you. Then you will be like a fresh batch of dough made without yeast, which is what you really are. Christ, our Passover Lamb, has been sacrificed for us.

It is not making an error that is a problem, but willfully doing wrong and boasting about it, that is where the problem is. For when a sinner refuses to have a repentant heart, how do we want God to help that soul.

Titus 2:11-12

For the grace of God has been revealed, bringing salvation to all people.

And we are instructed to turn from godless living and sinful pleasures. We should live in this evil world with wisdom, righteousness, and devotion to God,

Help us Lord to get it right. The gate of hell shall not prevail over your true church. Glory to Your name Heavenly Father.

He calls us blessed.

Love
