ELDERS

1 Peter 5:1

The elders which are among you I exhort, who am also an elder, and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, and also a partaker of the glory that shall be revealed:


It seems easy when one desires the role of a leader. The urge may most likely come in good intention to lead others in the right direction. 

However an adage says: "the proof of the pudding is in the eating"


Jesus, the Messiah says it this way:


Matthew 7:20

Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.


It is easy to sit on the exalted chair, receive greetings and respect, even be eloquent in speech. The deciding factor still remains:


1 Peter 5:3

Neither as being lords over [God's] heritage, but being ensamples to the flock.


Hello Elder: ARE YOU A GOOD EXAMPLE?


Where do some miss it?


1 Peter 5:2

Feed the flock of God which is among you, taking the oversight [thereof], not by constraint, but willingly; not for filthy lucre, but of a ready mind;


What is lucre?


noun (uncountable)Gain in money or goods; profit; riches; -- often in a negative sense.


And the bible says it is filthy.


Hello Minister, why are you in ministry?


Mark 10:42-45

But Jesus called them [to him], and saith unto them, Ye know that they which are accounted to rule over the Gentiles exercise lordship over them; and their great ones exercise authority upon them.

But so shall it not be among you: but whosoever will be great among you, shall be your minister:

And whosoever of you will be the chiefest, shall be servant of all.

For even the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.


To minister, is to serve. Selah


So, a worthy elder is a good example.


Elders deserve double honour.


1Timothy 5:17

Let the elders that rule well be counted worthy of double honour, especially they who labour in the word and doctrine.


We must respect our elders.


However, elders should not receive honour from men and REJECTION from God. That would be a disaster!


No elder sits and watches things go wrong. 


May the Lord empower our elders with deeper discernment.


Are you a parent? You are an elder in the family. It is not just about disciplining your children. BE A GOOD EXAMPLE!


Your children will amplify you. Let it be good they find to amplify. Selah


Again, be a good example.


Thank God for our elders. 


PRAYER

Loving Father, open the hearts of our elders to more revelations of Your expectations from them. Make all elders good examples to the brethren also let them be good watchers that the church would continually be edified as we bring glory to Your name Lord forevermore.


He calls us blessed.

THE MISERY OF THE DRUNKARD

Isaiah 28:1 Woe to the crown of pride, to the drunkards of Ephraim, whose glorious beauty [is] a fading flower, which [are] on the head of the fat valleys of them that are overcome with wine! Being drunk is an attribute related to losing control of one's mind due to the strong influence of a substance such as alcohol. There was a woe against the drunkards of Ephraim as we see in Isaiah 28, the rebuke was more on priests, prophets and leaders: Isaiah 28:7 But they also have erred through wine, and through strong drink are out of the way; the priest and the prophet have erred through strong drink, they are swallowed up of wine, they are out of the way through strong drink; they err in vision, they stumble [in] judgment.
