LEAD THEM INTO YOUR LEGACY
1 Kings 2:2-4,12
“I am going where everyone on earth must someday go. Take courage and be a man.
Observe the requirements of the Lord your God, and follow all his ways. Keep the decrees, commands, regulations, and laws written in the Law of Moses so that you will be successful in all you do and wherever you go.
If you do this, then the Lord will keep the promise he made to me. He told me, ‘If your descendants live as they should and follow me faithfully with all their heart and soul, one of them will always sit on the throne of Israel.’
Solomon became king and sat on the throne of David his father, and his kingdom was firmly established.
David had finished his work on earth, it was almost time to leave. An error would have been committed, thank God for observing eyes of people like prophet Nathan, who took drastic steps that led to David crowning Solomon as king.
1st lesson, it is good to keep godly relationship of people who can stir you to the right path when you or things you control are going amiss.
Now that David had installed Solomon as king, he understood that it was not the riches he had acquired that will help him succeed. No. He gave him the counsel that wise fathers gave their sons through the history of God's people.
1 Kings 2:3
Observe the requirements of the Lord your God, and follow all his ways. Keep the decrees, commands, regulations, and laws written in the Law of Moses so that you will be successful in all you do and wherever you go.
The fear of the Lord!
No wonder Solomon could later write:
Proverbs 3:5-6
Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding.
Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.
The leading of the Lord was what will make him excel as king and this we will see later on as we go through the rest of his record in the book of 1st Kings.
Proverbs 5:1
My son, pay attention to my wisdom; listen carefully to my wise counsel.
Proverbs 6:20-23
My son, obey your father’s commands, and don’t neglect your mother’s instruction.
Keep their words always in your heart.
Tie them around your neck.
When you walk, their counsel will lead you. When you sleep, they will protect you. When you wake up, they will advise you.
For their command is a lamp and their instruction a light; their corrective discipline is the way to life.
So what do we learn? Always set your house in order, it begins when the children are still little and goes on to when they have all gone to different areas in life. Teach them, groom them to honour the Lord, help them gather all the skills they can get and let them know how to love one another.
The result is that you will have peace in your older days and you will be proud of what they have become.
Yes it is good to leave an inheritance for your children:
Proverbs 13:22
Good people leave an inheritance to their grandchildren, but the sinner’s wealth passes to the godly.
However, it goes beyond wealth, else the wealth will become the reason for war and disaster that will tear the family apart. With the wealth the children must have inherited good character, godly nature and integrity. All these bonded by love. We know that God is Love.
May the Lord help us to do well in our places of assignment, the home being the first point of call.
Our generation shall praise the Lord, their lives will glorify God.
PRAYER
Loving Father help me build a generation that will glorify You. My family will be an example of what You want all families to be, I will not fail You Lord. Glory to Your name Lord forevermore.
He calls us blessed.
Love
@the watcher.
