BE CAREFUL WHO YOU FIGHT AGAINST

2 Samuel 17:1,4,7,14,23

Now Ahithophel urged Absalom, “Let me choose 12,000 men to start out after David tonight.

This plan seemed good to Absalom and to all the elders of Israel.

“Well,” Hushai replied to Absalom, “this time Ahithophel has made a mistake.

Then Absalom and all the men of Israel said, “Hushai’s advice is better than Ahithophel’s.” For the Lord had determined to defeat the counsel of Ahithophel, which really was the better plan, so that he could bring disaster on Absalom!

When Ahithophel realized that his advice had not been followed, he saddled his donkey, went to his hometown, set his affairs in order, and hanged himself. He died there and was buried in the family tomb.

Be careful who you fight against. Don't get yourself in a war against others, you may not know if you are fighting against God's own.

Ahithophel had a gift:

2 Samuel 16:23

Absalom followed Ahithophel’s advice, just as David had done. For every word Ahithophel spoke seemed as wise as though it had come directly from the mouth of God.

He had the gift of wisdom, his advice was always as precise as if it was from God, so does scripture record.

However, Ahithophel was on the wrong side, he was fighting against the Lord's anointed.

Listen, we do understand that David was going through these persecutions because of his sin. However, as we studied some days ago, "never be the tool for evil!".

So, what did David do when he saw that his own adviser had moved to join his attacker(who was his son Absalom)

2 Samuel 15:31

When someone told David that his adviser Ahithophel was now backing Absalom, David prayed, “O Lord, let Ahithophel give Absalom foolish advice!”

Listen, no matter what you face in this life, no matter how difficult or oppressing the situation is, never let go of your faith in God. Don't disconnect from Him for any reason. Stay with the Lord continue in prayers, worship, study of the word and all other spiritual exercises.

No matter who seems to have rejected you. No matter if your family, friends or even the church (sect or brethren) throws you out, stay connected with Your Heavenly Father, He called You through Christ Jesus, He will not disappoint You, no one can take you out of His hands.

You may have done wrong and are now paying for your wrong, yet, stay with the Lord, never disconnect.

Listen, you who join forces to fight God's own, it will backfire, let go now so that you do not get burnt when the fire rebounds.

Keep your hands and heart clean, child of God.

Proverbs 11:29a

Those who bring trouble on their families inherit the wind.

May God grant us understanding.

PRAYER

Loving Father keep me from fighting against Your own but busy edifying the brethren. May I never be entangled with what does not please You. Glory to Your name Lord forevermore.

He calls us blessed.
