THE NEXT GENERATION

Psalms 78:1-4

O my people, listen to my instructions. 

Open your ears to what I am saying, 

for I will speak to you in a parable. 

I will teach you hidden lessons from our past— 

stories we have heard and known, stories our ancestors handed down to us.

We will not hide these truths from our children; we will tell the next generation 

about the glorious deeds of the Lord, about his power and his mighty wonders.


As a country celebrated it's independence yesterday, I look at the present crop of leaders and even some of those who are seeking for electoral positions. Most of them were born before the independence. They have history at their finger tips, thus there is a question for them:


How prosperous is the nation now compared to what it was immediately after independence?


Is the nation better or in a worse situation?


In our opening verses, from Psalm chapter 78, we see a call, a call for us to learn from our history and also teach our children same.


We are not to make the mistakes our ancestors made!


The children of Israel did not listen and what they Lord warned, came on them:


Psalms 78:10-11,17,31-33

They did not keep God’s covenant and refused to live by his instructions.

They forgot what he had done - the great wonders he had shown them,

Yet they kept on sinning against him, rebelling against the Most High in the desert.

the anger of God rose against them, and he killed their strongest men. 

He struck down the finest of Israel’s young men.

But in spite of this, the people kept sinning. 

Despite his wonders, they refused to trust him.

So he ended their lives in failure, their years in terror.


Listen the greatest of kings or queens yet pass away, why do people who find themselves in places of influence live as if they would live forever?


Why do they never learn from the past?


Why should they choose the path of evil and cause pain and hardship on the people?


Why the lies and wickedness, why the looting of common wealth?


What example is left for the next generation?


What of the people in general, why do we applaud and encourage wicked leaders?


Why have we allowed our personal interest/selfishness or greed becloud our reasonable judgment?


What examples have we left for our children?


What then do we expect from the next generation?


The church is not left out!


What comes from our pulpits?


Is it God that is in charge by His Spirit or has man taken over?


Do we serve God or we serve money?


Matthew 6:24

“No one can serve two masters. For you will hate one and love the other; you will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.


Do we think the Lord will accept us if we destroy the foundation for the next generation?


There is yet hope, we can get it right if we all turn to the Lord today.


Do we really care for the next generation?


Look at our homes, picture your children in years to come.


Look into the streets, picture those children in years to come


Look at the social media, picture those children in years to come.


Check out the schools and the religious gatherings, picture those children in years to come.


Does the reality scare us, or do we feel comfortable with what the next generation holds?


Let us take action today.


So help us Good Lord.


He calls us blessed.

OUR GIVING

NEVER TAKE REVENGE!

Romans 12:19 Dear friends, never take revenge. Leave that to the righteous anger of God. For the Scriptures say, “I will take revenge;I will pay them back,” says the lord. Offences would surely come as we continue our journey here on earth. One thing we must learn to do is never to act when we are angry. Almost one hundred percent of the time, if we reflect on it, we find that we regret our actions. It is not that we do not get angry, the bible teaches that even when we do, it should not lead us to sin. Ephesians 4:26 Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath: If an enemy hurts us, well what do we expect from an enemy. However betrayal is when a friend intentionally hurts us. Check it! What makes us think it is intentional? So better to talk about it than be silent!
