TAME THE TONGUE

James 3:2

For we all stumble in many things. If anyone does not stumble in word, he is a perfect man, able also to bridle the whole body.

The tongue is one very important part of our body. The smallest but yet boasts great things.

James 3:5
Even so the tongue is a little member and boasts great things. See how great a forest a little fire kindles!

Many a war have been as a result of the tongue. Many a disaster, was as a result of the tongue. Young minds have been disillusioned and dreams killed all because of the tongue.

James still continues by saying "no man can tame the tongue" though man has tamed powerful animals such as horses and has controlled large ships by their tongue (helm)

James 3:4 (BBE)
And again ships, though they are so great and moved by violent winds, are turned by a very small guiding-blade, at the impulse of the man who is using it.

We need the power of God to tame the tongue (the Holy Spirit), because the proceed of the tongue is from the content of the heart.

Matthew 12:34 - 36
O generation of vipers, how can ye, being evil, speak good things? for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh.
A good man out of the good treasure of the heart bringeth forth good things: and an evil man out of the evil treasure bringeth forth evil things.

Proverbs 4:23
Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it [are] the issues of life.
Put away from thee a froward mouth, and perverse lips put far from thee.

Should we be worried about what we say, is there a repercussion? YES!

James 3:6
And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity. The tongue is so set among our members that it defiles the whole body, and sets on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire by hell.

Matthew 12:36 - 37
"But I say to you that for every idle word men may speak, they will give account of it in the day of judgment.
"For by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned."

O help us Good Lord!

There is therefore a great need to bridle the tongue. We may have done that a while then due to pressure of people, events and passing of time we slip again into careless speaking, we must caution ourselves again.

John 14:26
"But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.

Romans 8:26a
Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses.

I see God's Spirit take over our tongue causing it to bring forth good and not evil, as our minds are filled with God's words. May anger not go deep into our spirit, for though we may be angered we would not sin.

Ephesians 4:26
Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath

With this consciousness of right speaking I see our mouth blessing, prophesying and worshipping God. We would not be found wanting.

Yes we will bless and not curse.

Romans 12:14
Bless them which persecute you: bless, and curse not

God help us all!

He calls us blessed.
