WOE TO THE DRUNKARD (Isaiah 28)

Isaiah 28:1
Woe to the crown of pride, to the drunkards of Ephraim, whose glorious beauty [is] a fading flower, which [are] on the head of the fat valleys of them that are overcome with wine!

Being drunk is an attribute related to loosing control of one's mind due to the strong influence of a substance such as alcohol. There was a woe against the drunkards of Ephraim as we see in Isaiah 28, the rebuke was more on priests, prophets and leaders:

Isaiah 28:7
But they also have erred through wine, and through strong drink are out of the way; the priest and the prophet have erred through strong drink, they are swallowed up of wine, they are out of the way through strong drink; they err in vision, they stumble [in] judgment.

See Proverbs:

Proverbs 31:4&5
 [It is] not for kings, O Lemuel, [it is] not for kings to drink wine; nor for princes strong drink:
 Lest they drink, and forget the law, and pervert the judgment of any of the afflicted.

In a literal sense of being drunk, no serious person should be found in this state, the bible reminds us that a drunkard is pervert in judgement, thus what disaster to put authority in their hands.

When we look at the drunk, we wonder how priest and prophets could be drunk with wine, but it is in scriptures and definitely we have many today who have high responsibilities and yet allow themselves be brought low by addictions.

WHAT AM I DRUNK OF?

* literal alcoholic drinks of whatever form
* narcotic substances
* desire for the opposite sex
* desire for money
* desire for self recognition
* desire for human praise
* tribalism
* desire for power, etc

We could be surprised the list of things that could intoxicate man!

Whether literal or otherwise the believer who is a drunkard, posses danger to self, those they lead and the work of God.

One major thing about being drunk is the loss of mind, which leads to errors and disaster.

WHAT CAN I SUBMIT MY MIND TO?

The one who we can submit our mind to and be sure of good judgement is God and He will do this through His Spirit.

Ephesians 5:18
And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;

May the Lord be the one in control of our mind that our actions be in the power of the Holy Spirit no addiction will continue to reign in our life.

We are set free in the name of Jesus.

We are blessed.
