REVENGE
Matthew 5:38
“You have heard the law that says the punishment must match the injury: ‘An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth.’
There is a difference between self seeking revenge and the role of constituted authority. This is where a one time American president erred, when talking about the role of the sermon on the mount in American government.
There is a difference between representing oneself and representing a system, organisation or a government.. .
For a person the decision lies on that individual, for you account for your own actions and do not put another in jeopardy for your own beliefs or sentiment. Of course there is a place for favours, for the Lord will yet use you to bless. However for an organization or nation there are laws that govern the land, they may be biblical or otherwise, however a country that says it puts it's trust on God should have its laws sourced from God's word and that is where the founding fathers based their formulation of the laws.
Wisdom is to understand the difference between the dispensation of grace, that is the revelation of Christ and how the time of the Mosaic laws applied.
Punishment is not removed in the dispensation of grace, for wrong is not deleted, for the body can be punished or go through pain, what matters is the soul, is it headed to eternal glory? This is why prisons are rightly called "correction centres", for the root desire is for the offender to repent and become a better person.
So Christ teaches forgiveness and peace. One reason troubles and fights occur is because one resists to be taken advantage of by another. This should not be among brethren. Why do you want to defraud another? Woe unto the one who takes advantage of the believer's humility to cause them pain, the Lord Himself will deal with that one.
However, outsiders may not understand this, the Lord says we should not take revenge, the Lord will fight for us:
Romans 12:19
Dear friends, never take revenge. Leave that to the righteous anger of God. For the Scriptures say,
“I will take revenge;
I will pay them back,”
says the lord.
Really wisdom is needed for us to walk in the way of the Lord. We must not get carried away with trying to get even, for the real battle is not physical but spiritual.
Help us good Lord.
Most times people's actions are mere distractions to take us off the path, that we will not finish well. If we give in we leave visions unaccomplished, goals terminated and deplete our positive energy. They will not succeed. We have the Spirit, we will not get distracted.
In the Lord we remain victorious.
He calls us blessed.
