PROSPER
The issue about prosperity is not the prosperity itself but the drive to get it. Most of the examples of people we have in scriptures who prospered did not set out to get rich or make great wealth, NO, their intention was to make impact and to glorify God.
It was either:
* they had direct instruction from God on what to do, like Noah, Abraham, Moses and David
* they made a decision to live and do things God's way, like Joseph, Job, Daniel
* or they requested that God make them valuable and useful to their generation like the case of Jabez and Solomon.
Ofcourse many would have been in these three categories and failed. They could have heard from God and either did not obey or were afraid. Some may have decided to do it God's way then fell when temptation came. Yet still others would have requested to make an impact in their generation but were dragged down by the thorns of this world.
What of the new testament, the first christians, how did they live? One thing we should note of the early christians was the fact that they believed that Christ would return in their generation. However they did an investent that was greater than the financial investment we all are chasing after today. They invested in SOULS.
1Corinthians 15:1
Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand;
1Thessalonians 2:8&9
So being affectionately desirous of you, we were willing to have imparted unto you, not the gospel of God only, but also our own souls, because ye were dear unto us.
For ye remember, brethren, our labour and travail: for labouring night and day, because we would not be chargeable unto any of you, we preached unto you the gospel of God.
As we go about our daily labour may we understand that the focus is not wealth, riches and abundance but fulfiling purpose, creating a legacy and investing in lives.
If you have believed, do ask yourself, where do I differ from an unbeliever?
Matthew 6:32&33
(For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things.
But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.
The reason for choas in the world is the chase for material gain. One desires to be above the other. But if we all see ourselves as equal and accept that we have equal rights to all things, then, fighting will be a thing of the past. But this cannot be in our present time because according to Christ '. . . the poor will always be with you . . .' So is it a hopeless cause?, NO it only implies that to have peace, contentment and love are key factors to guide our daily living. . . Shallom
We are already created to prosper, to have plenty, why because we carry wisdom, we are solution to problems.
Did the new testament teach that we would prosper? Of course YES!
1John 3:17
But whoso hath this world's good, and seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his bowels [of compassion] from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him?
3John 1:2
Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.
1Corinthians 16:2
Upon the first [day] of the week let every one of you lay by him in store, as [God] hath prospered him, that there be no gatherings when I come.
Therefore brethren I see you prosper and prosper God's way. May we stand out having no guilt and no valid accusation against us. We will prosper in soul, spirit and in the flesh.
Go forth and prosper.
Wishing you a prosperous year ahead.
