TRUST AND OBEY

2 Chronicles 14:2,5

Asa did what was pleasing and good in the sight of the Lord his God.
Asa also removed the pagan shrines, as well as the incense altars from every one of Judah’s towns. So Asa’s kingdom enjoyed a period of peace.


It is simple, if you trust and obey the Lord, you walk in His peace. That is the secret of living in peace and prosperity.


The song "trust and obey" by John H. Sammis(1887) gives us a good description of what God expects from us:


"When we walk with the Lord
in the light of his word,
what a glory he sheds on our way!
While we do his good will,
he abides with us still,
and with all who will trust and obey.

Trust and obey, for there's no other way
to be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey."


King Asa enjoyed peace for 10 years, why, because he chose the way of the Lord, he trusted and obeyed.


Does it then mean that we will not face challenges?


No,


However, the Lord steps in for us:


2 Chronicles 14:9,11-12
Once an Ethiopian named Zerah attacked Judah with an army of 1,000,000 men and 300 chariots. They advanced to the town of Mareshah,
Then Asa cried out to the lord his God, “O Lord, no one but you can help the powerless against the mighty! Help us, O Lord our God, for we trust in you alone. It is in your name that we have come against this vast horde. O Lord, you are our God; do not let mere men prevail against you!”
So the Lord defeated the Ethiopians in the presence of Asa and the army of Judah, and the enemy fled.


The number of the enemies were double of king Asa's army but the Lord gave him victory and helped him conquer even beyond this.


Jesus said:

John 16:33
I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.”


So before we begin to compare our time and wonder why everything is going chaos and comatose, we need to ask ourselves if we are a people seeking the Lord or if we have made other things our God.


* money
* religion
* tribalism
* racism
* self
* lust
* pride
*  etc


When Love does not rule, God is not there!


Our land will continue to be in it's state of distress until we truly seek the Lord.


Many will say but there are many churches, don't we already have enough believers?


Really.


What exactly are the churches about?


What are they doing?


Are they serving God or are they just seeking personal gain and relevance?


Many of them go out to a more secular state after testing a form of prosperity they forget about God. This implies they never loved God in the first place.


What lifestyle do the supposed believers live outside of the church building or space? When we meet them in the office, business area, government positions and parastatals, how do they behave, do they walk in love, do they display the true character of God?


How come those countries who are not that religious have better character and integrity? Is that not a shame to the supposed believers?


Jesus re-echoed what he said through the prophets:


Matthew 15:8-9
‘These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me.
Their worship is a farce, for they teach man-made ideas as commands from God.’”


We cannot continue this way, when we celebrate one supposed man-of-God or one prophet or whatever title we give them but we are yet to know the true God to whom we will account to. When will all this nonsense stop?


We shout prayers everywhere just like the hypocrites that Jesus talked about (what we abore from other religions).


Is that not the order of the day now, we have removed the sacredness of prayer and made it a caricature!


Matthew 6:5-8
“When you pray, don’t be like the hypocrites who love to pray publicly on street corners and in the synagogues where everyone can see them. I tell you the truth, that is all the reward they will ever get.
But when you pray, go away by yourself, shut the door behind you, and pray to your Father in private. Then your Father, who sees everything, will reward you.
“When you pray, don’t babble on and on as people of other religions do. They think their prayers are answered merely by repeating their words again and again.
Don’t be like them, for your Father knows exactly what you need even before you ask him!


Can we get this right, can we stop all this nonsense and come back to God!


It is time to really TRUST and OBEY


O help us Good Lord.


PRAYER
Loving Father, I trust You Lord, help me to live this way, where You are truly Lord of my life. It will not just be me talking about it, but I will live it. O Lord help me to really TRUST and OBEY. Glory to Your name Lord forevermore.


He calls us blessed.

DO UNTO OTHERS . . .

Matthew 7:12 "Therefore, whatever you want men to do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets. It is hypocritical of us to expect people to stand with us when we are experiencing challenges yet when we see others face their own challenges, we begin to imagine what they must have done wrong or maybe they annoyed God or did one evil or the other instead of reaching out to help as we would desire others to do for us. The same thing goes for prosperity, when the Lord opens a door for us and we have abundance of wealth or a breakthrough we expect others to rejoice with us, more so, some would even find it hard to give to others. What is our reaction when someone else gets this breakthrough, do we get suddenly suspicious without reason. Do we expect the person to reach out to us? MY YEAR OF FULFILMENT

Psalms 57:2 I cry out to God Most High, to God who will fulfill his purpose for me. We just finished the book of 1Samuel, in this book we see the cry of Israel for a king and how God raised Saul to rule them. We also saw how Saul disobeyed God and lost kingship for himself and his generation. He did not stop there, he went on to seek for the death of David, whom he saw as the next heir of the throne. In chapter 31, the last chapter, we see how Saul and all his sons and men were killed, it was tragic, however it was as a sign of relief for David. We could go on counting all the struggles and difficulties we faced in the past year. No, we should not, we should begin to look at all the positives, remembering all the good things God has done for us. If He promised it, He will do it and that is what we hold onto as we go through this year.
