WHO DO YOU LISTEN TO?
1 Chronicles 19:1-3
Some time after this, King Nahash of the Ammonites died, and his son Hanun became king.
David said, “I am going to show loyalty to Hanun because his father, Nahash, was always loyal to me.” So David sent messengers to express sympathy to Hanun about his father’s death. But when David’s ambassadors arrived in the land of Ammon,
the Ammonite commanders said to Hanun, “Do you really think these men are coming here to honor your father? No! David has sent them to spy out the land so they can come in and conquer it!”
It is definitely important to have advisers and counselors, a person or people with wisdom you listen to that give you counsel as you go on in life.
However, it becomes tragic if these ones are not wise or knowledgeable. They could destroy you.
When king Nahash of the Ammonites died, his son Hanun took over and by bad counsel he took king David's kind gesture as a threat, he then humiliated his messengers and thus humiliated David and the people of Israel.
This cost him a great loss, of life and even of other allies:
1 Chronicles 19:14-15
When Joab and his troops attacked, the Arameans began to run away.
And when the Ammonites saw the Arameans running, they also ran from Abishai and retreated into the city. Then Joab returned to Jerusalem.
1 Chronicles 19:16,18
The Arameans now realized that they were no match for Israel, so they sent messengers and summoned additional Aramean troops from the other side of the Euphrates River. These troops were under the command of Shobach, the commander of Hadadezer’s forces.
But again the Arameans fled from the Israelites. This time David’s forces killed 7,000 charioteers and 40,000 foot soldiers, including Shobach, the commander of their army.
What a loss!
Now instead of being friends with Israel, they became subjects and also lost their allies:
1 Chronicles 19:19
When Hadadezer’s allies saw that they had been defeated by Israel, they surrendered to David and became his subjects. After that, the Arameans were no longer willing to help the Ammonites.
BE CAREFUL WHO YOU LISTEN TO!
You are married and your adviser and confidants are those who cannot keep a happy home, those who are always complaining of this and that, always having something evil to say about their spouse. Beware, you have already orchestrated the destruction of your home.
You are an employee and the only people that are your confidant and friends are those who only have evil to say about their employer and management. They only find faults in the company having no positive attitude or impact to the organization. What you are doing is pushing yourself out and creating a toxic atmosphere for yourself.
You say you are a believer yet you do not stand for the truth, you join those who twists God's word for personal gain or those who say they are of God yet they live a life of sin. Beware:
Revelation 3:3-4
Go back to what you heard and believed at first; hold to it firmly. Repent and turn to me again. If you don’t wake up, I will come to you suddenly, as unexpected as a thief.
“Yet there are some in the church in Sardis who have not soiled their clothes with evil. They will walk with me in white, for they are worthy.
I could go on and on every aspect of life, where we could derail because of bad counsel and influence.
We must remember that we would be the one to suffer the consequences of bad counsel and influences, so wisdom is to run away from it.
Why, do we leave the great and blessed people the Lord brings our way to look for the wrong ones, why are we so naive!
It is time to repent and put away all these negative aura that keeps us in unhappiness and the state of anxiety continually. Let us stop destroying ourselves.
In conclusion understand that the most important person we should listen to is God Himself.
How?
Hebrews 1:2
And now in these final days, he has spoken to us through his Son. God promised everything to the Son as an inheritance, and through the Son he created the universe.
We listen to Christ Jesus and He speaks through the written word (the Bible) and this is interpreted to us by the Holy Spirit.
Can we then spend time in prayer again and again through the day, not just asking for things but seeking guidance.
John 16:13
When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own but will tell you what he has heard. He will tell you about the future.
Be careful who you listen to.
Help us Good Lord.
PRAYER
Loving Father, make me listen to You always, guide my steps that I will please You in all I think, speak and do. I will not err. I will not see destruction in any way. Glory to Your name Lord forevermore.
He calls us blessed.
Love
@the watcher.
