DON'T GET CARRIED AWAY
1 Chronicles 13:7,9-10,12
They placed the Ark of God on a new cart and brought it from Abinadab’s house. Uzzah and Ahio were guiding the cart.
But when they arrived at the threshing floor of Nacon, the oxen stumbled, and Uzzah reached out his hand to steady the Ark.
Then the Lord’s anger was aroused against Uzzah, and he struck him dead because he had laid his hand on the Ark. So Uzzah died there in the presence of God.
David was now afraid of God, and he asked, “How can I ever bring the Ark of God back into my care?”
Have you began a new project, a new family, a new job, a new ministry and then suddenly something just seemed to go wrong?
You feel you have done everything right and you have made all the necessary preparations and that God was with you, then like a flash something just goes wrong?
That was exactly how David felt when he went to bring back the ark of the covenant.
1 Chronicles 13:2-4,6
Then he addressed the entire assembly of Israel as follows: “If you approve and if it is the will of the Lord our God, let us send messages to all the Israelites throughout the land, including the priests and Levites in their towns and pasturelands. Let us invite them to come and join us.
It is time to bring back the Ark of our God, for we neglected it during the reign of Saul.”
The whole assembly agreed to this, for the people could see it was the right thing to do.
Then David and all Israel went to Baalah of Judah (also called Kiriath-jearim) to bring back the Ark of God, which bears the name of the Lord who is enthroned between the cherubim.
Wait!
Did David really follow the right procedure, did he follow God's instructions?
The answer is NO!
Exodus 25:10,13-15
“Have the people make an Ark of acacia wood—a sacred chest 45 inches long, 27 inches wide, and 27 inches high.
Make poles from acacia wood, and overlay them with gold.
Insert the poles into the rings at the sides of the Ark to carry it.
These carrying poles must stay inside the rings; never remove them.
Numbers 4:15
The camp will be ready to move when Aaron and his sons have finished covering the sanctuary and all the sacred articles. The Kohathites will come and carry these things to the next destination. But they must not touch the sacred objects, or they will die. So these are the things from the Tabernacle that the Kohathites must carry.
So we see that that there was special preparations to be made by the priests and Levites involving proper covering of the ark and that it should be transported by being carried on it's poles. The Kohathites should carry it but never touch it lest they die!
We see that the instructions were actually flouted.
We see this clearly when David made the second attempt to bring the ark, this time he followed the instructions:
1 Chronicles 15:2,13-15
Then he commanded, “No one except the Levites may carry the Ark of God. The Lord has chosen them to carry the Ark of the Lord and to serve him forever.”
Because you Levites did not carry the Ark the first time, the anger of the Lord our God burst out against us. We failed to ask God how to move it properly.”
So the priests and the Levites purified themselves in order to bring the Ark of the Lord, the God of Israel, to Jerusalem.
Then the Levites carried the Ark of God on their shoulders with its carrying poles, just as the Lord had instructed Moses.
He acknowledged his mistake: ". . . we failed to ask God how to . . ."
So can we see it?
Most times we rush off maybe with the right intentions but have we asked God?
Is God leading that move, has He asked you to go ahead or is it entirely you?
Proverbs 3:5-6
Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding.
Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.
Don't play around with God, don't take Him for granted. You are the emotional one, you are the sentimental one, God is God.
Don't get carried away.
O help us Good Lord.
PRAYER
Loving Father in all I think, say and do, may I please You Lord following Your instructions that I may not err. Lead me Heavenly Father. Glory to Your name Lord forevermore.
He calls us blessed.
