WASTED THREAT

2 Kings 18:30-32,35-36

Don’t let him fool you into trusting in the Lord by saying, ‘The Lord will surely rescue us. This city will never fall into the hands of the Assyrian king!’

“Don’t listen to Hezekiah! These are the terms the king of Assyria is offering: Make peace with me—open the gates and come out. Then each of you can continue eating from your own grapevine and fig tree and drinking from your own well.

Then I will arrange to take you to another land like this one—a land of grain and new wine, bread and vineyards, olive groves and honey. Choose life instead of death! “Don’t listen to Hezekiah when he tries to mislead you by saying, ‘The Lord will rescue us!’

What god of any nation has ever been able to save its people from my power? So what makes you think that the Lord can rescue Jerusalem from me?”

But the people were silent and did not utter a word because Hezekiah had commanded them, “Do not answer him.”

The threat can come as heavy as it looks. Always remember:

1 Peter 5:8

Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour.

The roar does not mean that it has the power over you, no!

What is it all about? Fear!

What is the evil that fear brings? Lack of faith. Remember:

Hebrews 11:6

And it is impossible to please God without faith. Anyone who wants to come to him must believe that God exists and that he rewards those who sincerely seek him.

Just as the king of Assyria offered the people a different deal from the promise which God had already fulfilled for them, the enemy also offers us false promises away from what God has promised us.

Don't fall for it, it is actually a smoke screen to make you go into total slavery.

The enemy can never have any good intention for you or anyone.

Christ explained it to us:

John 10:10

The thief’s purpose is to steal and kill and destroy. My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life.

Lack of faith is one reason people go for idolatry, looking for something tangible to hold on to they then get gullible and then hold on to dead things as living. Selah

For us it is a NO!

2 Timothy 1:7

For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline.

So, we refuse to submit to fear, what do we then do?

1 Peter 5:9

Stand firm against him, and be strong in your faith. Remember that your family of believers all over the world is going through the same kind of suffering you are.

There is no one he doesn't try, for he even tried Christ when He was on earth as a human. Offering Him false promises in contrary to the glory He already has. Same with Adam, offering Him a false sense of power, wisdom and enjoyment. In falling for it Adam lost his glory, dominion and authority.

We must not fall for it!

Let it be known that it is a wasted threat, let them boast all they can, you stay in the word of God.

Your God is bigger than any power or force, He is the Almighty God. None can stand Him or come close to Him, He is God and in control of your life, if you are His.

Listen:

Psalms 91:4,7-8,11-12

He will cover you with his feathers. He will shelter you with his wings.

His faithful promises are your armor and protection.

Though a thousand fall at your side, though ten thousand are dying around you, these evils will not touch you.

Just open your eyes, and see how the wicked are punished.

For he will order his angels to protect you wherever you go.

They will hold you up with their hands so you won’t even hurt your foot on a stone.

I love Hezekiah's counsel to the people before they went to hear what the enemy's camp had to say:

2 Kings 18:36

But the people were silent and did not utter a word because Hezekiah had commanded them, “Do not answer him.”

No need to exchange words with them, this battle belongs to the Lord.

Sometimes you do not need to reply the enemy. Instead of worrying just begin to give praise to God.

Then you make it what it is, an empty threat!

It is empty because it is not a threat to you but a threat to the Almighty God.

David in his Psalm made this clear:

Psalms 4:3-5

You can be sure of this:

The Lord set apart the godly for himself.

The Lord will answer when I call to him.

Don’t sin by letting anger control you.

Think about it overnight and remain silent.

Offer sacrifices in the right spirit, and trust the Lord.

We bow to no wasted threat, we commit ourselves to God our Father. We win.

PRAYER

Loving Father all that come against me actually come against You. I see victory again and again, glory to Your name Lord forevermore.

He calls us blessed.

Love
