Miracle Money
2 Kings 4:1-7
One day the widow of a member of the group of prophets came to Elisha and cried out, “My husband who served you is dead, and you know how he feared the lord. But now a creditor has come, threatening to take my two sons as slaves.”
“What can I do to help you?” Elisha asked. “Tell me, what do you have in the house?”“Nothing at all, except a flask of olive oil,” she replied.
And Elisha said, “Borrow as many empty jars as you can from your friends and neighbors.
Then go into your house with your sons and shut the door behind you. Pour olive oil from your flask into the jars, setting each one aside when it is filled.”
So she did as she was told. Her sons kept bringing jars to her, and she filled one after another.
Soon every container was full to the brim!“Bring me another jar,” she said to one of her sons.“There aren’t any more!” he told her. And then the olive oil stopped flowing.
When she told the man of God what had happened, he said to her, “Now sell the olive oil and pay your debts, and you and your sons can live on what is left over.”
We live in times when people have made their whole life goals about money. The society respects you when you have a lot of money. Young people's ambitions and dreams have moved from the tangible impact to the society to display of wealth(money to be precise)
For this reason the societal moral values have been replaced with something without meaning. In places where money might not be so much of a god other forms of perversion have taken it's place.
Is there anything wrong with having wealth? No. However, the same wealth can destroy as it can also be a tool to do exploits and bless lives.
1 Timothy 6:10
For the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil. And some people, craving money, have wandered from the true faith and pierced themselves with many sorrows.
In our chapter for today the 4th chapter in the second records of the Kings of Israel, we see the prophet Elisha intervene to turn common things to valuable things that can be sold to make money, just as he did for this widow of a prophet who was in critical financial crises.
Hear her words:
2 Kings 4:1b, 2b
“My husband who served you is dead, and you know how he feared the Lord. But now a creditor has come, threatening to take my two sons as slaves.”
“Tell me, what do you have in the house?”“Nothing at all, except a flask of olive oil,” she replied.
She was owing and her two sons were about to be taken as slaves.
Listen, there are times when the Lord permits His own to display miracles. There is a difference between miracles and magic!
The Lord who countered the devil when he wanted Him to turn stone to bread was the same Lord who turned water into wine. Selah
Today we hear of miracle money by supposed prophets, miracle credit alerts. Also we hear of ponzi schemes when you are asked to sow money to reap bountiful money. These are all fraud. Study the scriptures it is not the essence of it.
Check through the prophets, they did not acquire wealth for themselves, they trusted the Lord for their every day meal and other care.
Many have no clue what it is to be a prophet especially as it was in the time of the old testament.
There is no miracle money anywhere but the Lord can intervene to make you have provision when you are in need. Remember there is no earthy currency in God's kingdom. Money is an earthly invention. If the Lord intervenes as He did in the scriptures we have read and others we will yet go through, He works in ways to enable us make wealth through our skill or trade. He is a God of order.
So can we get it right and stop all those charlatans using the name of the Lord in vain.
Always remember this, a true man of God will point you to the Lord and not to themselves.
Can we now with clear eyes worship God for who He is and not for what we can get.
He is God, give Him all the honour, never put Him side by side with mammon.
Matthew 6:24
“No one can serve two masters. For you will hate one and love the other; you will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.
Help us Good Lord.
PRAYER
Loving Father keep me away from the love of money, may money work for me and be beneath me and not the other way around. I love You Lord above all else. Glory to Your name Lord forevermore.
He calls us blessed.
Love
