EVIL BEGETS EVIL

 1 Kings 16:8-10,13

Elah son of Baasha began to rule over Israel in the twenty-sixth year of King Asa’s reign in Judah. He reigned in the city of Tirzah for two years.

Then Zimri, who commanded half of the royal chariots, made plans to kill him. One day in Tirzah, Elah was getting drunk at the home of Arza, the supervisor of the palace.

Zimri walked in and struck him down and killed him. This happened in the twenty-seventh year of King Asa’s reign in Judah. Then Zimri became the next king.

This happened because of all the sins Baasha and his son Elah had committed, and because of the sins they led Israel to commit. They provoked the anger of the Lord, the God of Israel, with their worthless idols.

Can we see the consistent pattern of evil in Israel starting from the falling away of Solomon, then the leadership of the eleven tribes by Jeroboam, then his son Nadab, then Baasha who plotted against and killed Nadab, then Elah son of Baasha who was killed by Zimri.

It was all a line of evil kings who sinned against God.

When you build your life, family or friendship around evil, do not expect evil to leave you.

As children of God, what atmosphere do we create? One of love and peace, where God reigns or one of hate, jealousy and all forms of evil conspiracies?

An adage says "as you make your bed, so you must lie upon it"

Scriptures says:

Proverbs 1:30-31,33

They rejected my advice and paid no attention when I corrected them.

Therefore, they must eat the bitter fruit of living their own way, choking on their own schemes.

But all who listen to me will live in peace, untroubled by fear of harm.”

Warning will come, instructions will come, yet many would harden their hearts because they have chosen evil instead of good.

The signs will be all around, yet they would not heed to it, for they would be drunk with their wickedness and evil devices, then calamity would struck!

Elah was getting drunk in the house of the palace supervisor when he was killed.

1 Kings 16:9-10

Then Zimri, who commanded half of the royal chariots, made plans to kill him. One day in Tirzah, Elah was getting drunk at the home of Arza, the supervisor of the palace.

Zimri walked in and struck him down and killed him. This happened in the twenty-seventh year of King Asa’s reign in Judah. Then Zimri became the next king.

Belshazzar also was drinking and having fun when his own calamity met him.

Daniel 5:2,30

While Belshazzar was drinking the wine, he gave orders to bring in the gold and silver cups that his predecessor, Nebuchadnezzar, had taken from the Temple in Jerusalem. He wanted to drink from them with his nobles, his wives, and his concubines.

That very night Belshazzar, the Babylonian king, was killed.

What are you building around yourself, good or evil?

Have you thought of the consequences of your lies, false accusations, plots, schemes, evil wishes, hate, theft, oppression and other forms of impurities? How long will you remain in this darkness?

As believers we are meant to be light. Stop lying to yourself come to the light and be totally free.

May God have mercy on us.
