HUMBLY AWAIT YOUR CALL

1 Kings 1:30,40,49-50,52-53

your son Solomon will be the next king and will sit on my throne this very day, just as I vowed to you before the Lord, the God of Israel.”

And all the people followed Solomon into Jerusalem, playing flutes and shouting for joy. The celebration was so joyous and noisy that the earth shook with the sound.

Then all of Adonijah’s guests jumped up in panic from the banquet table and quickly scattered.

Adonijah was afraid of Solomon, so he rushed to the sacred tent and grabbed on to the horns of the altar.

Solomon replied, “If he proves himself to be loyal, not a hair on his head will be touched. But if he makes trouble, he will die.”

So King Solomon summoned Adonijah, and they brought him down from the altar. He came and bowed respectfully before King Solomon, who dismissed him, saying, “Go on home.”

Adonijah son of David as we saw yesterday went ahead to proclaim himself king. This he did while his father, the king, was yet alive without his consent.

Yes David was weak and about to die, but he was yet alive and could still speak.

This brings to mind an important question:

What was David's relationship with his children? Was there a rapport? How come they kept on making bad decisions. From Amnon to Absalom then Adonijah.

Father's have rapport with your children start from their very early age, let them trust you with everything, let it not be outsiders that become their counsel. We need to do better, God helping us.

That said, let us look at Adonijah's behaviour, what do we learn from it?

Do not exalt yourself prematurely, don't rush for the high seat when you have not been cleared.

Jesus said:

Luke 14:7-11

When Jesus noticed that all who had come to the dinner were trying to sit in the seats of honor near the head of the table, he gave them this advice:

“When you are invited to a wedding feast, don’t sit in the seat of honor. What if someone who is more distinguished than you has also been invited?

The host will come and say, ‘Give this person your seat.’ Then you will be embarrassed, and you will have to take whatever seat is left at the foot of the table!

“Instead, take the lowest place at the foot of the table. Then when your host sees you, he will come and say, ‘Friend, we have a better place for you!’ Then you will be honored in front of all the other guests.

For those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.”

Humility is the character God expects from us, you don't need to hurry into your glory, God will lift you into.

Does this mean you should be timid and naive, No!

As you wait to be exalted, what you should be doing is preparing for it. Do those trainings, learn, read and hear from mentors. Always be prepared for the high positions but stay humble with the common people. Your wisdom and gifts will not be silent. You will be exalted.

1 Peter 5:6

So humble yourselves under the mighty power of God, and at the right time he will lift you up in honor.

Your throne will not be taken from you.

Let us not repeat Adonijah's mistake, let us honour the elders (in this case his father, the king). Let us spend ample time preparing instead of fighting for positions or allowing evil thoughts.

We will not err.

So help us Good Lord.

PRAYER

Loving Father, help me stay prepared and focused, that I will be ready when You lift me up. Remove any foolish pride from me, I humbly wait on You Dear Lord. Glory to Your name Lord forevermore.

He calls us blessed.

Love
