DISCIPLINE YOUR CHILDREN

1 Kings 1:5-6

About that time David’s son Adonijah, whose mother was Haggith, began boasting, “I will make myself king.” So he provided himself with chariots and charioteers and recruited fifty men to run in front of him.

Now his father, King David, had never disciplined him at any time, even by asking, “Why are you doing that?” Adonijah had been born next after Absalom, and he was very handsome.

We cannot be wiser than God. He is the Creator and the scriptures record that everything He made was good. We begin to have problems when we move away from His will, creating our own will which could lead to outright rebellion.

Not taking us too far from the topic, let us remind ourselves of how and why God created us.

Genesis 1:26-27,31

Then God said, “Let us make human beings in our image, to be like us. They will reign over the fish in the sea, the birds in the sky, the livestock, all the wild animals on the earth, and the small animals that scurry along the ground.”

So God created human beings in his own image.

In the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.

Then God looked over all he had made, and he saw that it was very good! And evening passed and morning came, marking the sixth day.

God made us in His image, this was not just like a picture copy but with the ability to make decisions, choices and to have dominion.

As I always say, this could be good and also could become evil when misused.

From scriptures man's problem began when the first man chose disobedience by listening to the suggestion of the tempter, there he fell and sin was created!

So back to the topic.

Every child born carries the original sin syndrome and has the tendency to do the wrong thing the same way they have the tendency to do the right thing.

So scriptures instructs:

Proverbs 13:24

Those who spare the rod of discipline hate their children.

Those who love their children care enough to discipline them.

We must teach out children to do the right thing. We discipline them when they do wrong and praise them when they do right.

If we do not do this, we are breeding a pain for ourselves and also for them, for they will get into trouble again and again!

Proverbs 23:13-14

Don’t fail to discipline your children.

The rod of punishment won’t kill them.

Physical discipline may well save them from death.

David's children who were not raised in discipline became real trouble to him starting from Amnon who raped his sister, then Absalom who killed Amnon and then exiled the king with a plot to kill him, now here is Adonijah, who is forcefully trying to take over kingship while his father is still alive.

What does the record say:

1 Kings 1:6

Now his father, King David, had never disciplined him at any time, even by asking, “Why are you doing that?” Adonijah had been born next after Absalom, and he was very handsome.

When you refuse to discipline your children and raise them in the way of the Lord, you have invested in heartache for the future!

Proverbs 19:18

Discipline your children while there is hope.

Otherwise you will ruin their lives.

What have you done dear parent? Have you raised your child well, have you used discipline?

For some it seems late for their children are already grown and they regret not taking appropriate actions, however, it is never totally out of hand, come to the Lord and let Him lead you on how to get it right again, it would not be easy but remember that recovery is never easy - prevention is always the best option.

Proverbs 22:6

Direct your children onto the right path, and when they are older, they will not leave it.

Don't be deceived, discipline is necessary for every child. However, there is a right and wrong discipline. You must learn how this is properly done.

When to speak, to restrain, restrict and if needed especially when they are still little when to "smack". All these bits of cautions is meant to stir them onto the right direction.

If you love your children, you will discipline them.

Don't be deceived by the evil agenda of the world that have consoled up evil for the children. How can you say a child is too young to take alcohol or to drive but has the right to choose what gender they are!

The enemy has manipulated it's way into the power system and wants to bring about a corrupt generation that is against God's good standards, it will surely fail!

Discipline must not be ignored, we must stir our children in the right direction.

We learn this from the Heavenly Father Himself.

Proverbs 3:12

For the Lord corrects those he loves, just as a father corrects a child in whom he delights.

Remember:

Proverbs 29:17

Discipline your children, and they will give you peace of mind and will make your heart glad.

Help us Good Lord.

PRAYER

Dear Lord help me be the great parent I should be to my children and to all children under my care. May I be a good example and also in Your wisdom, to discipline accordingly when needed. We will build a generation that will honour You and bring us joy. Glory to Your name Lord forevermore.

He calls us blessed.
