WHEN THERE IS NO LEADER

Judges 17:6

In those days Israel had no king; all the people did whatever seemed right in their own eyes.

When there is no leadership things get out of control, just as our opening verse said concerning Israel, the people did whatever seemed right in their own eyes.

Israel was supposed to have the Lord God as their king, however they seemed not to recognize His kingship but were looking for something physical to hold on to.

Judges 17:4-5

So when he returned the money to his mother, she took 200 silver coins and gave them to a silversmith, who made them into an image and an idol. And these were placed in Micah’s house.

Micah set up a shrine for the idol, and he made a sacred ephod and some household idols. Then he installed one of his sons as his personal priest.

This is the very reason people do not have the right relationship with the Lord God. They desire what they can touch, feel or be sentimental about. They want a physical substance, thus they create an idol.

Recall what happened when the people of Israel were brought out of captivity through Moses and were brought to God's presence, just a short while of Moses absence, they had already gone whoring an idol:

Exodus 32:1-4

When the people saw how long it was taking Moses to come back down the mountain, they gathered around Aaron. “Come on,” they said, “make us some gods who can lead us. We don’t know what happened to this fellow Moses, who brought us here from the land of Egypt.”

So Aaron said, “Take the gold rings from the ears of your wives and sons and daughters, and bring them to me.”

All the people took the gold rings from their ears and brought them to Aaron.

Then Aaron took the gold, melted it down, and molded it into the shape of a calf. When the people saw it, they exclaimed, “O Israel, these are the gods who brought you out of the land of Egypt!”

That tendency to quickly go to idolatry still rests on the heart of some today.

The people claimed that God was their king but in their heart they were yet to submit to His kingship.

Are believers also making this same mistakes today?

They run from one event to another, one church gathering to another even some also visit places that cannot be called part of the church, all in the bid to get one favour or the other. To get one kind of breakthrough or the other.

Without proper leadership, there tend to be a great chaos, there is no definition of right or wrong and everyone would take it that whatever they did was right.

Is God the king in your life?

Are you properly guided by His ministers?

Are you a proper guide being God's representative to your children, wards or dependants?

There is need for the God fearing one to stir all towards God's desire for them. We need to have the right people in the helms of affairs that evil does not reign.

Have you accepted God as the King in your life?

You cannot be a citizen of His kingdom if He is not Lord over you.

We must also submit to the authority in our communities and the higher authority understanding that without this authorities it will be a chaos.

Paul clarified it this way:

Romans 13:1-5

Everyone must submit to governing authorities. For all authority comes from God, and those in positions of authority have been placed there by God.

So anyone who rebels against authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and they will be punished.

For the authorities do not strike fear in people who are doing right, but in those who are doing wrong. Would you like to live without fear of the authorities? Do what is right, and they will honor you.

The authorities are God’s servants, sent for your good. But if you are doing wrong, of course you should be afraid, for they have the power to punish you. They are God’s servants, sent for the very purpose of punishing those who do what is wrong.

So you must submit to them, not only to avoid punishment, but also to keep a clear conscience.

It is therefore wrong for a believer to be among those being punished for doing the wrong things, this is not acceptable.

1 Peter 4:15

If you suffer, however, it must not be for murder, stealing, making trouble, or prying into other people’s affairs.

We are to be the very good example, yes, we who are called of God.

May we have good leadership in all options of power, may we have order and peace as people are led aright. May God rule in the hearts of His people and cause us to continually do what pleases Him.

PRAYER

Dear Lord, You reign as king in my life, lead me continually by Your Spirit, let all I do please You. We pray that You lead us to select good leaders in all aspect of our national and communal life. We await Your perfect leadership in Christ Jesus at the end of all things. Glory to Your name Lord forevermore.

He calls us blessed.

Love
