WHAT CAN BRING YOU DOWN?
Judges 16:4-6,16,18
Some time later Samson fell in love with a woman named Delilah, who lived in the valley of Sorek.
The rulers of the Philistines went to her and said, “Entice Samson to tell you what makes him so strong and how he can be overpowered and tied up securely. Then each of us will give you 1,100 pieces of silver.”
So Delilah said to Samson, “Please tell me what makes you so strong and what it would take to tie you up securely.”
She tormented him with her nagging day after day until he was sick to death of it.
Delilah realized he had finally told her the truth, so she sent for the Philistine rulers. “Come back one more time,” she said, “for he has finally told me his secret.” So the Philistine rulers returned with the money in their hands.
What can bring you down?
What is/are your weakness?
Samson was anointed with God's Spirit to have so much strength, so much that none could stand him and no force could hold him down. Yet in all his strength he allowed a weakness.
His weakness was in his lust for strange women.
As I told a group recently, what ever you do that becomes an addiction, should be cut off. For it controls you and can take away that which is of great value to you.
Take for instance the love for alcohol: some very young folks told me that it makes them feel so good. My question was: "can you account for all your actions when you are intoxicated?". Their answer was NO, then disaster is not far, for there is that loop hole the enemy is looking for to bring one down.
Remember it is the Lord that knocks on the door of our heart to let Him in, the enemy doesn't! Just like a serpent, it crawls in through the cracks (loop holes) that we allow in our walls.
Why?
John 10:1-2,7,9-10
“I tell you the truth, anyone who sneaks over the wall of a sheepfold, rather than going through the gate, must surely be a thief and a robber!
But the one who enters through the gate is the shepherd of the sheep.
so he explained it to them: “I tell you the truth, I am the gate for the sheep.
Yes, I am the gate. Those who come in through me will be saved. They will come and go freely and will find good pastures.
The thief’s purpose is to steal and kill and destroy. My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life.
So instead of being drunk with wine, scriptures say, be filled with the Holy Spirit.
Ephesians 5:18-20
Don’t be drunk with wine, because that will ruin your life. Instead, be filled with the Holy Spirit,
singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs among yourselves, and making music to the Lord in your hearts.
And give thanks for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
The same applies to all forms of addictions and works of the flesh. Don't let it control you, kill it.
Galatians 5:19-21
When you follow the desires of your sinful nature, the results are very clear: sexual immorality, impurity, lustful pleasures,
idolatry, sorcery, hostility, quarreling, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambition, dissension, division,
envy, drunkenness, wild parties, and other sins like these. Let me tell you again, as I have before, that anyone living that sort of life will not inherit the Kingdom of God.
Listen, in the same place that we have fornication, adultery so we have anger, jealousy, quarreling and wild parties. See just let it go. LET all that can bring you down GO!
Paul instructed by the Spirit:
Colossians 3:5-6
So put to death the sinful, earthly things lurking within you. Have nothing to do with sexual immorality, impurity, lust, and evil desires. Don’t be greedy, for a greedy person is an idolater, worshiping the things of this world.
Because of these sins, the anger of God is coming.
What can bring you down?
I love this prayer of David in the record of Psalms:
Psalms 139:23-24
Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts.
Point out anything in me that offends you, and lead me along the path of everlasting life.
What can bring you down, it is time to let it go.
Then be filled with God's Spirit.
Hebrews 12:1-2
Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us.
We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith. Because of the joy awaiting him, he endured the cross, disregarding its shame. Now he is seated in the place of honor beside God’s throne.
Our liberation is here, the enemy will have no part in us, for the Lord has taken all part of us.
Glory to God.
PRAYER
Dear Lord search me again today and delete everything that does not please You. There is so much power, anointing and blessings you want to fill me with,I have no space for any filth. Glory to Your name Lord forevermore.
He calls us blessed.
Love
