TERRIBLE CONSEQUENCES
Deuteronomy 28:15,20,46,63
“But if you refuse to listen to the Lord your God and do not obey all the commands and decrees I am giving you today, all these curses will come and overwhelm you:
“The Lord himself will send on you curses, confusion, and frustration in everything you do, until at last you are completely destroyed for doing evil and abandoning me.
These horrors will serve as a sign and warning among you and your descendants forever.
“Just as the Lord has found great pleasure in causing you to prosper and multiply, the Lord will find pleasure in destroying you. You will be torn from the land you are about to enter and occupy.
It is really difficult reading through the verses of Deuteronomy chapter 28:15-68.
No wonder Jesus said:
Mark 10:5
But Jesus responded, “He wrote this commandment only as a concession to your hard hearts.
I recall that those days when we quote the blessings from verses 1 -15, it was all exciting and promising however we never quoted or were compelled to quote the remaining 53 verses, look through them, they are a hard pill to swallow.
Now think of it, everything has the other side, just as we saw yesterday the law has both sides, the blessings when you fully obey and the curses when you refuse to obey.
Look at the interaction at the garden of Eden. It was all blessings through and through, however, there was just one clause, the forbidden fruit!
Disobedience always had consequences, let no one deceive you. Many have suffered from the consequences of their actions without having a pre-warning, however it is more terrible for those who have been pre-warned yet they decide to disobey or remain in rebellion.
They are only left with the consequences.
Glory to God, we are no longer under the bondage of the law or the curse that goes with not fulfilling it, however that does not put us under disobedience but more in obedience.
For just as Samuel explained to Saul:
1 Samuel 15:23
Rebellion is as sinful as witchcraft, and stubbornness as bad as worshiping idols.
So because you have rejected the command of the Lord, he has rejected you as king.”
The very love for our God (this is the first and most important commandment) is the reason for our obedience. Disobedience is an expression of not loving.
Jesus said:
John 14:15
“If you love me, obey my commandments.
What we preach in the salvation message, is God's love for man. What we need to do is to accept it and love Him same, this has always been the message from the beginning.
1 John 3:11
This is the message you have heard from the beginning: We should love one another.
1 John 4:7-8
Dear friends, let us continue to love one another, for love comes from God. Anyone who loves is a child of God and knows God.
But anyone who does not love does not know God, for God is love.
So we see that love conquered all and it included cancelling all the curses. Glory to God.
No wonder Paul wrote:
1 Corinthians 13:13
Three things will last forever—faith, hope, and love—and the greatest of these is love.
There is no way you will walk in love and be under a curse, No, God is love and in Christ God's love is revealed to the whole world.
Sin comes as a distraction to keep you in bondage of the law and also to keep you from enjoying your full liberty in Christ Jesus by bringing guilt and arguments from the evil one(s).
Galatians 2:16,21
Yet we know that a person is made right with God by faith in Jesus Christ, not by obeying the law. And we have believed in Christ Jesus, so that we might be made right with God because of our faith in Christ, not because we have obeyed the law. For no one will ever be made right with God by obeying the law.”
I do not treat the grace of God as meaningless. For if keeping the law could make us right with God, then there was no need for Christ to die.
The horrible consequences can never be ours, for God has kept us in the covering of His love.
Glory to God.
Colossians 3:3
For you died to this life, and your real life is hidden with Christ in God.
Those evil desires may rise up again and again, don't give them room it is all a mirage to keep you bound, know that you are free in Christ Jesus, resist their lies and stand on your liberty. Never give them room.
God has helped us and our sanctification continues:
Colossians 3:1-10
Since you have been raised to new life with Christ, set your sights on the realities of heaven, where Christ sits in the place of honor at God’s right hand.
Think about the things of heaven, not the things of earth.
For you died to this life, and your real life is hidden with Christ in God.
And when Christ, who is your life, is revealed to the whole world, you will share in all his glory.
So put to death the sinful, earthly things lurking within you. Have nothing to do with sexual immorality, impurity, lust, and evil desires. Don’t be greedy, for a greedy person is an idolater, worshiping the things of this world.
Because of these sins, the anger of God is coming.
You used to do these things when your life was still part of this world.
But now is the time to get rid of anger, rage, malicious behavior, slander, and dirty language.
Don’t lie to each other, for you have stripped off your old sinful nature and all its wicked deeds.
Put on your new nature, and be renewed as you learn to know your Creator and become like him.
Glory to God.
We are free, we have no evil consequences but we are hid in God and enjoy His blessings.
Ephesians 1:3-4,6
All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly realms because we are united with Christ.
Even before he made the world, God loved us and chose us in Christ to be holy and without fault in his eyes.
So we praise God for the glorious grace he has poured out on us who belong to his dear Son.
So don't get caught up in the old covenant or the bondage of the law, remember why we study them:
2 Timothy 3:16-17
All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right.
God uses it to prepare and equip his people to do every good work.
Do we have commandments in the new covenant, Yes, the commandments of Christ is love and it is evident in the way we live our lives. We live the live of faith, not just processing with our mouths but believing in our heart and after confessing we live it out.
1 Timothy 6:11-12,14
But you, Timothy, are a man of God; so run from all these evil things. Pursue righteousness and a godly life, along with faith, love, perseverance, and gentleness.
Fight the good fight for the true faith. Hold tightly to the eternal life to which God has called you, which you have declared so well before many witnesses.
that you obey this command without wavering. Then no one can find fault with you from now until our Lord Jesus Christ comes again.
For we are the light of the world, we must show the world what it is to be a child of God. We reveal heaven on earth.
We shouldn't be trapped in the bondage that the world is in, we should be free and be instrumental to set others free:
2 Corinthians 5:19-21
For God was in Christ, reconciling the world to himself, no longer counting people’s sins against them. And he gave us this wonderful message of reconciliation.
So we are Christ’s ambassadors; God is making his appeal through us. We speak for Christ when we plead, “Come back to God!”
For God made Christ, who never sinned, to be the offering for our sin, so that we could be made right with God through Christ.
We do not expect horrible consequences, but glorious ones which are revealed to us in Christ Jesus.
Glory to God.
PRAYER
Glorious Father I have Your blessings in Christ Jesus I do not await any negative consequences but positive ones for I walk in Your righteousness and dwell in Your love. I am Yours fully Lord and the enemy(s) have no part in me. Glory to Your name Lord forevermore.
He calls us blessed.
Love
@the watcher.
