RESIST IDOLATRY

Deuteronomy 13:1-4,18

“Suppose there are prophets among you or those who dream dreams about the future, and they promise you signs or miracles,

and the predicted signs or miracles occur. If they then say, ‘Come, let us worship other gods’—gods you have not known before—

do not listen to them. The Lord your God is testing you to see if you truly love him with all your heart and soul.

Serve only the Lord your God and fear him alone. Obey his commands, listen to his voice, and cling to him.

“The Lord your God will be merciful only if you listen to his voice and keep all his commands that I am giving you today, doing what pleases him.

The danger of seeking signs and miracles has always been a snare for the believer. The truth is that we are meant to be the sign and not chasing after the sign.

Mark 16:17a

These miraculous signs will accompany those who believe:

Moses told the people that one way they could fall into idolatry was following those who come with signs and miracles to worship other gods.

Remember that from the enemy it is a temptation but with God it is a test!

You must prove your stand with God.

In verse 4 of our opening verses Moses said: "The Lord your God is testing you to see if you truly love Him with all your heart and soul.

Serve only the Lord your God and fear Him alone. Obey His commands, listen to his voice, and cling to Him."

The same applies to us believers today, the one we fear and reverence is the Almighty Father not any prophet, pastor etc. We listen to messengers of God but our heart is for the Almighty God and He was and is only revealed in Christ Jesus.

For when Christ came the door to the Father was opened everyone can come boldly to the Father through the only way accessible.

John 14:6-10,13-14

Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me.

If you had really known me, you would know who my Father is. From now on, you do know him and have seen him!”

Philip said, “Lord, show us the Father, and we will be satisfied.”

Jesus replied, “Have I been with you all this time, Philip, and yet you still don’t know who I am? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father! So why are you asking me to show him to you?

Don’t you believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words I speak are not my own, but my Father who lives in me does his work through me.

You can ask for anything in my name, and I will do it, so that the Son can bring glory to the Father.

Yes, ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it!

The Father revealed to man is Christ Jesus, no one had ever seen the Heavenly Father but Him for He is in Him.

John 10:9-11

Yes, I am the gate. Those who come in through me will be saved. They will come and go freely and will find good pastures.

The thief’s purpose is to steal and kill and destroy. My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life.

“I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd sacrifices his life for the sheep.

Moses brought law but the Christ brought grace and truth, all the true prophets experienced Christ, for He was in the Heavenly Father.

Jesus said:

John 8:56,58

Your father Abraham rejoiced as he looked forward to my coming. He saw it and was glad.”

Jesus answered, “I tell you the truth, before Abraham was even born, I am!”

Many things abound to take your heart from God.

What exactly are you looking for that the Lord cannot take care of - nothing?

Jesus said:

Matthew 6:33

Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.

For the most important thing is your soul and that is what Christ says must be taken care of, this is wisdom, this is life.

Never forget that those that come for you seek your soul. No one gives you anything for free, they seek your soul. We must beware!

Resist anything that wants to take your heart away from Christ for they take your heart away from the Heavenly Father.

The relationship is of you with Him first before anyone else, no matter what title they carry.

Be reminded of what Christ told the Samaritan woman:

John 4:23-26

But the time is coming—indeed it’s here now—when true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth. The Father is looking for those who will worship him that way.

For God is Spirit, so those who worship him must worship in spirit and in truth.”

The woman said, “I know the Messiah is coming—the one who is called Christ. When he comes, he will explain everything to us.”

Then Jesus told her, “I am the Messiah!”

Resist idolatry.
