MAKE GOOD USE OF YOUR PRIVILEGE

Deuteronomy 9:4-6

“After the Lord your God has done this for you, don’t say in your hearts, ‘The Lord has given us this land because we are such good people!’ No, it is because of the wickedness of the other nations that he is pushing them out of your way.

It is not because you are so good or have such integrity that you are about to occupy their land. The Lord your God will drive these nations out ahead of you only because of their wickedness, and to fulfill the oath he swore to your ancestors Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.

You must recognize that the Lord your God is not giving you this good land because you are good, for you are not—you are a stubborn people.

Moses let the people of Israel know that they did not get to enter the promised land because they were good or righteous but because of two things: firstly the other nations living there were full of wickedness and their judgement had come, secondly, because of the promise He made with their fathers(who were faithful).

Moses made it clear that it was not their righteousness that gave them the privilege of the promised land, rather they were even accounted as stubborn and rebellious!

Deuteronomy 9:6,8,13,24

You must recognize that the Lord your God is not giving you this good land because you are good, for you are not—you are a stubborn people.

Even at Mount Sinai you made the Lord so angry he was ready to destroy you.

“The Lord also said to me, ‘I have seen how stubborn and rebellious these people are.

Yes, you have been rebelling against the Lord as long as I have known you.

If not of Moses' pleading and sacrifice on behalf of the children of Israel the Lord would have wiped them out.

Deuteronomy 9:18-20,25

“Then, as before, I threw myself down before the Lord for forty days and nights. I ate no bread and drank no water because of the great sin you had committed by doing what the Lord hated, provoking him to anger.

I feared that the furious anger of the Lord, which turned him against you, would drive him to destroy you. But again he listened to me.

The Lord was so angry with Aaron that he wanted to destroy him, too. But I prayed for Aaron, and the Lord spared him.

“That is why I threw myself down before the Lord for forty days and nights—for the Lord said he would destroy you.

(Do we still have faithful intercessors today?)

These is the same situation with the world in general before Christ came to give salvation to every human.

Romans 5:8,12

But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.

When Adam sinned, sin entered the world. Adam’s sin brought death, so death spread to everyone, for everyone sinned.

Romans 3:23-25

For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard.

Yet God freely and graciously declares that we are righteous. He did this through Christ Jesus when he freed us from the penalty for our sins.

For God presented Jesus as the sacrifice for sin. People are made right with God when they believe that Jesus sacrificed his life, shedding his blood. This sacrifice shows that God was being fair when he held back and did not punish those who sinned in times past,

The same way the children of Israel could not boast of their righteousness to make them worthy, we also cannot boast that we are saved of our own righteousness.

Ephesians 2:8-9

God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God.

Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it.

The same way the children of Israel were counselled not to take the privilege for granted, we are also warned not to take the grace of God for granted!

2 Corinthians 6:1

As God’s partners, we beg you not to accept this marvelous gift of God’s kindness and then ignore it.

Most people do not know the value of what they have till they lose it, we must not fall into this trap.

Romans 6:1-2

Well then, should we keep on sinning so that God can show us more and more of his wonderful grace?

Of course not! Since we have died to sin, how can we continue to live in it?

Yes, people misunderstand the concept of "once saved forever saved". Hmm, they better be careful. For Christ said:

Matthew 13:44-46

“The Kingdom of Heaven is like a treasure that a man discovered hidden in a field. In his excitement, he hid it again and sold everything he owned to get enough money to buy the field.

“Again, the Kingdom of Heaven is like a merchant on the lookout for choice pearls.

When he discovered a pearl of great value, he sold everything he owned and bought it!

May we not trade our Glory for what is not worthy. May we never be rebellious. May we not lose our way.

We will make good use of this privilege.

So help us Good Lord.

We will be faithful to the end.

PRAYER

Dear Father keep me in the pathway of Your righteousness may I make good use of the privilege of salvation You have given me in Christ Jesus. I will finish well. Glory to Your name Lord forevermore.

He calls us blessed.
