The Daughters' Inheritance
Numbers 27:1,5-7
One day a petition was presented by the daughters of Zelophehad—Mahlah, Noah, Hoglah, Milcah, and Tirzah. Their father, Zelophehad, was a descendant of Hepher son of Gilead, son of Makir, son of Manasseh, son of Joseph.
So Moses brought their case before the Lord.
And the Lord replied to Moses,
“The claim of the daughters of Zelophehad is legitimate. You must give them a grant of land along with their father’s relatives. Assign them the property that would have been given to their father.
There is a false conception in the minds of people that women were looked down on, during Bible times and were not counted among the inheritance.
When you read scriptures carefully you find out that this is not true.
Yes, women were seen as the home builders because ofcourse the child begins their abode in the woman's body, and when they come out to the world, the woman still has the duty to wean the child to a matured age.
This responsibility actually makes the woman very important in the society.
Some women stepped up to Moses to demand that they should have their own share of inheritance since their father was dead. Moses knew there was no law concerning that matter so he did right by bringing it to the Lord.
The Lord confirmed the stand of the women:
Numbers 27:6, 7a
And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
The daughters of Zelophehad speak right:
That the men are the ones who show up at the meetings, the outside gatherings and other council meetings does not mean that the women are not recognized or are looked down on, No, someone has to deal with the home front.
Today women work in same positions with men, they even head positions of authority and take up positions which were once thought to be solely for men. Wait, this did not just come into place we have so many records of it in scriptures.
Deborah was known as a woman of valour who led Israel to war. We could talk of others whom the Lord used to deliver Israel's enemies into their hands.
Listen, woman of God, you have an inheritance, you are blessed of the Lord, do not take your role for granted, be it as a daughter, single female, wife, mother or minister. You have favour in the eyes of the Lord.
I personally believe that if we order the access of prayer generally, the Lord takes priority in the order of - child, then woman before the man!
Arise daughters of Zion, take up your inheritance, build up our homes raise the altars, your relevance cannot be overemphasized.
Proverbs talks of the virtuous woman and makes us see that the man is relevant because of her:
(Read the whole chapter 31)
Proverbs 31:10-12,17-18,23,28-29
Who can find a virtuous and capable wife?
She is more precious than rubies.
Her husband can trust her, and she will greatly enrich his life.
She brings him good, not harm, all the days of her life.
She is energetic and strong, a hard worker.
She makes sure her dealings are profitable; her lamp burns late into the night.
Her husband is well known at the city gates, where he sits with the other civic leaders.
Her children stand and bless her.
Her husband praises her:
“There are many virtuous and capable women in the world, but you surpass them all!”
This chapter of Proverbs is a must read for every woman as a young girl, let it sink in and let it be part of her pillars of growth.
Women arise, you are not an article to be bought, or a carcass to preyed on.
You are a force to be reckoned with, the reason why all men succeed. You raise sons who become men and do exploits, you are the reason husbands gets respect. Your voice is heard in heaven and cause the Lord to intervene in the affairs of men.
Arise women of God take your inheritance, fulfill your purpose.
O help us Good Lord.
PRAYER
I decree over every woman in my life be they daughter, sister, wife, mother or friend, they will arise and shine, they will take their inheritance and be the reason why God is glorified from the home, the church, the society and in all nations. Glory to God forevermore.
He calls us blessed.
Love
