STOP FIGHTING THE BLESSED (before we blame Balak!)
Numbers 23:19-20,25-26
God is not a man, so he does not lie.
He is not human, so he does not change his mind.
Has he ever spoken and failed to act?
Has he ever promised and not carried it through?
Listen, I received a command to bless; God has blessed, and I cannot reverse it!
Then Balak said to Balaam, “Fine, but if you won’t curse them, at least don’t bless them!”
But Balaam replied to Balak, “Didn’t I tell you that I can do only what the Lord tells me?”
In insisting that Balaam curse the people of Israel, Balak got frustrated. Though Balaam might not have been a direct prophet of the Lord God but he had been given a gift to be able to bless and curse, and at that time they all knew there was one true God.
Listen, the power of darkness know this too:
James 2:19
You say you have faith, for you believe that there is one God. Good for you! Even the demons believe this, and they tremble in terror.
It is foolishness for anyone to be an atheist!
However let us look a bit closer, Balak had a reason to be worried, he had a good reason to want the downfall of Israel:
Numbers 22:2-4,6
Balak son of Zippor, the Moabite king, had seen everything the Israelites did to the Amorites.
And when the people of Moab saw how many Israelites there were, they were terrified.
The king of Moab said to the elders of Midian, “This mob will devour everything in sight, like an ox devours grass in the field!”So Balak, king of Moab,
Please come and curse these people for me because they are too powerful for me. Then perhaps I will be able to conquer them and drive them from the land. I know that blessings fall on any people you bless, and curses fall on people you curse.”
It was evident that the children of Israel were coming for Balak and his people.
Dear believer,
That person or people you are hating on, that you wish evil for,
WHAT HAVE THEY DONE TO YOU?
It is horrible the type of things we hear and see amongst brethren. They way we bite and fight against one another, what is wrong with us?
How come we have jealousy, envy, hatred, malice, backbiting and all other evil vices in our midst.
Listen the fruit of the flesh contains all of these evils:
Galatians 5:17,19-21
The sinful nature wants to do evil, which is just the opposite of what the Spirit wants. And the Spirit gives us desires that are the opposite of what the sinful nature desires. These two forces are constantly fighting each other, so you are not free to carry out your good intentions.
When you follow the desires of your sinful nature, the results are very clear: sexual immorality, impurity, lustful pleasures,
idolatry, sorcery, hostility, quarreling, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambition, dissension, division,
envy, drunkenness, wild parties, and other sins like these. Let me tell you again, as I have before, that anyone living that sort of life will not inherit the Kingdom of God.
We say we do not fornicate, commit adultery, steal or blaspheme yet we lie, hate, gossip and stab our brethren at the back. What is wrong with believers.
Galatians 5:15
But if you are always biting and devouring one another, watch out! Beware of destroying one another.
We are so quick to condemn the errors of those lives before us when we read scriptures, yet we do a more terrible evil.
We have become blinded by envy, selfish ambitions, tribalism, racism and all other wicked vices of the world
Again I ask, what is wrong with us?
Jesus told the people of His day:
Matthew 12:41-42
“The people of Nineveh will stand up against this generation on judgment day and condemn it, for they repented of their sins at the preaching of Jonah. Now someone greater than Jonah is here—but you refuse to repent.
The queen of Sheba will also stand up against this generation on judgment day and condemn it, for she came from a distant land to hear the wisdom of Solomon. Now someone greater than Solomon is here—but you refuse to listen.
What is our excuse, when we have already experienced Christ the solution of all things, the fulfilment of the law and revelation of grace? What more do we want? What other salvation are we seeking, what other redemption is there?
It is us resisting the finished work of Christ when we refuse to leave the evil works of old and walk in His righteousness.
How long do we remain in this foolishness
So dear brethren it is time:
Colossians 3:5,8-10,12-17
So put to death the sinful, earthly things lurking within you. Have nothing to do with sexual immorality, impurity, lust, and evil desires. Don’t be greedy, for a greedy person is an idolater, worshiping the things of this world.
But now is the time to get rid of anger, rage, malicious behavior, slander, and dirty language.
Don’t lie to each other, for you have stripped off your old sinful nature and all its wicked deeds.
Put on your new nature, and be renewed as you learn to know your Creator and become like him.
Since God chose you to be the holy people he loves, you must clothe yourselves with tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience.
Make allowance for each other’s faults, and forgive anyone who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others.
Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds us all together in perfect harmony.
And let the peace that comes from Christ rule in your hearts. For as members of one body you are called to live in peace. And always be thankful.
Let the message about Christ, in all its richness, fill your lives. Teach and counsel each other with all the wisdom he gives. Sing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs to God with thankful hearts.
And whatever you do or say, do it as a representative of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through him to God the Father.
We cannot be "the blessed" yet keep fighting "the blessed", we cannot be a contradiction, instead we walk in love.
O help us Good Lord.
PRAYER
Glorious Father help me to live the life of the blessing that You have made me, walking in love and not contrariwise. May I reflect Your nature Lord, edifying and blessing the brethren for You blessed them also. Help me Good Lord. Glory to Your name forever.
He calls us blessed.
Love
