A GENERATION LEFT BEHIND

Numbers 26:1-2,64-65

After the plague had ended, the Lord said to Moses and to Eleazar son of Aaron the priest,

“From the whole community of Israel, record the names of all the warriors by their families. List all the men twenty years old or older who are able to go to war.”

Not one person on this list had been among those listed in the previous registration taken by Moses and Aaron in the wilderness of Sinai.

For the Lord had said of them, “They will all die in the wilderness.” Not one of them survived except Caleb son of Jephunneh and Joshua son of Nun.

We remember that the first census took place when they left Egypt.

Numbers 1:1-3

A year after Israel’s departure from Egypt, the Lord spoke to Moses in the Tabernacle in the wilderness of Sinai. On the first day of the second month of that year he said,

“From the whole community of Israel, record the names of all the warriors by their clans and families. List all the men

twenty years old or older who are able to go to war. You and Aaron must register the troops,

These were the adults who left Egypt to begin the journey to Canaan, the land of promise.

However as we have seen through the study of Exodus, Leviticus and Numbers, that generation was full of unbelief, rebellious and prone to sin.

We remember what God said concerning them:

Numbers 14:21-23

But as surely as I live, and as surely as the earth is filled with the Lord’s glory,

not one of these people will ever enter that land. They have all seen my glorious presence and the miraculous signs I performed both in Egypt and in the wilderness, but again and again they have tested me by refusing to listen to my voice.

They will never even see the land I swore to give their ancestors. None of those who have treated me with contempt will ever see it.

Yet in the midst of it all there was a remnant, Caleb and Joshua:

Numbers 14:24

But my servant Caleb has a different attitude than the others have. He has remained loyal to me, so I will bring him into the land he explored. His descendants will possess their full share of that land.

Numbers 26:65

For the Lord had said of them, “They will all die in the wilderness.” Not one of them survived except Caleb son of Jephunneh and Joshua son of Nun.

Let us note that the humblest man that ever lived also didn't enter, though he saw the land.

We must always be reminded of these scripture when we read the record of the happenings in the old testament:

2 Timothy 3:16-17

All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right.

God uses it to prepare and equip his people to do every good work.

Therefore, we do not make the same mistakes that they did, we do not follow the wrong path that people of old did, but we learn from their mistakes and are edified by their right actions.

No believer should be left behind when the Lord returns. We must not repeat the same mistakes those who fell in the wilderness did, we should instead remain faithful. For Jesus said:

Luke 18:8b

But when the Son of Man returns, how many will he find on the earth who have faith?”

How many of us will yet remain in faith at the end of time, or would we have given up to the world?

Matthew 24:13

But the one who endures to the end will be saved.

Revelation 3:11

I am coming soon. Hold on to what you have, so that no one will take away your crown.

When we talk of His return most people's mind go to the second coming. However, we must remember that once we leave this earth(die) the second coming has already taken place for us.

Hebrews 9:27

And just as each person is destined to die once and after that comes judgment,

We must NOT be part of the generation left behind, the generation who rebelled against God and all His ways, No. We must be counted among those who were faithful.

Our testimony at the end should be:

Matthew 25:21

“The master was full of praise. ‘Well done, my good and faithful servant. You have been faithful in handling this small amount, so now I will give you many more responsibilities. Let’s celebrate together!’

O help us Good Lord.

We will finish well.

PRAYER

Dear Lord, help me to remain faithful to the end, there is nothing more important at the end than for You to receive me into Your rest that we celebrate together. Loving Father help me finish well. Glory to Your name Lord. Surely where You are, there will I be also.

He calls us blessed.

Love
