THE LIGHT
Numbers 8:2-3
“Give Aaron the following instructions: When you set up the seven lamps in the lampstand, place them so their light shines forward in front of the lampstand.”
So Aaron did this. He set up the seven lamps so they reflected their light forward, just as the lord had commanded Moses.
The significance of light cannot be overemphasized, when God wanted to begin the creation of the earth He had to call out light. When Christ was to come to the earth He came as light. He was not just the light, He gave light to everyone!
Genesis 1:3
Then God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light.
John 1:5,9
The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it.
The one who is the true light, who gives light to everyone, was coming into the world.
Light stands for illumination, it brings clarity, displacing darkness. Darkness brings fear but when light enters fear is removed. This is why the psalmist recorded:
Psalms 27:1
The Lord is my light and my salvation— so why should I be afraid?
The Lord is my fortress, protecting me from danger, so why should I tremble?
The significance of the lampstand in the tabernacle was essential for worship. The priests were to ensure that it's fire kept burning.
For us today the lamp represent the church and the fire the burning of God's Spirit.
Revelation 1:20
This is the meaning of the mystery of the seven stars you saw in my right hand and the seven gold lampstands: The seven stars are the angels of the seven churches, and the seven lampstands are the seven churches.
Christ shines His light to the world through the church of which each believer is a part.
When we pray we must not cease to pray for the church, that the light will keep burning and reach every part of the earth, for this is one criteria for the return of Christ.
Each of us believers wherever we are must shine our light individually then collectively. Christ said:
Matthew 5:14-16
“You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden.
No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house.
In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.
We represent Christ the light and reveal Him to the whole world.
2 Corinthians 5:19-20
For God was in Christ, reconciling the world to himself, no longer counting people’s sins against them. And he gave us this wonderful message of reconciliation.
So we are Christ’s ambassadors; God is making his appeal through us. We speak for Christ when we plead, “Come back to God!”
Let nothing deem your light, let nothing break your lampstand. Let Christ keep shinning His light through us.
PRAYER
Lord help us keep your lampstand well maintained and our fire lit, that we may shine Your light to the whole world.
Glory to God.
He calls us blessed.
Love
