MERCY
Numbers 5:27
If she has defiled herself by being unfaithful to her husband, the water that brings on the curse will cause bitter suffering. Her abdomen will swell and her womb will shrink, and her name will become a curse among her people.
It was a terrible thing for a woman to be caught in an evil act, the repercussion was death. A mere suspicion was enough to bring up a case!
However,
John 8:3-5,7,10-11
As he was speaking, the teachers of religious law and the Pharisees brought a woman who had been caught in the act of adultery. They put her in front of the crowd.
“Teacher,” they said to Jesus, “this woman was caught in the act of adultery.
The law of Moses says to stone her. What do you say?”
They kept demanding an answer, so he stood up again and said, “All right, but let the one who has never sinned throw the first stone!”
Then Jesus stood up again and said to the woman, “Where are your accusers? Didn’t even one of them condemn you?”
“No, Lord,” she said. And Jesus said, “Neither do I. Go and sin no more.”----------
Listen, no matter what your accuser brings up against you, when Christ comes into the situation mercy prevails.
Alvin Slaughter's song "mercy refused", has the first verse and chorus going thus:
"Justice demanded satisfaction
The law had been broken again and again
Judgment required immediate action
Death wanted payment for sin
Mercy refused and love took my place
There on the cross where justice met grace
Mercy refused to let me die
Jesus the Lamb was crucified
Though rightfully death wanted me
Mercy refused"
Rightfully we were convicted of sin, however the death of Christ and the shedding of His blood has canceled our debts. Glory to God.
His sacrifice made us free from sin and death, not just that, but His resurrection empowers us to go and sin no more!
John 8:11
“No, Lord,” she said. And Jesus said, “Neither do I. Go and sin no more.”----------
What mercy, what grace, O what love!
Let us give Him praise today for His mercy and grace.
Everyday He refreshes His love, mercy and faithfulness towards us. Let us also do the same in our love and faithfulness to Him.
Lamentations 3:22-23
The faithful love of the lord never ends! His mercies never cease. Great is his faithfulness; his mercies begin afresh each morning.
O what a privilege.
PRAYER
Dear Heavenly Father thank You for Your grace and mercy, may I never take it for mercy. I live to please You.
He calls us blessed.
