KNOW YOUR DUTY

Numbers 4:28,33

So these are the duties assigned to the Gershonite clans at the Tabernacle. They will be directly responsible to Ithamar son of Aaron the priest.

So these are the duties of the Merarite clans at the Tabernacle. They are directly responsible to Ithamar son of Aaron the priest.”

Do you know your duty/role in the body of Christ?

Ephesians 4:11-13

Now these are the gifts Christ gave to the church: the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, and the pastors and teachers.

Their responsibility is to equip God’s people to do his work and build up the church, the body of Christ.

This will continue until we all come to such unity in our faith and knowledge of God’s Son that we will be mature in the Lord, measuring up to the full and complete standard of Christ.

1 Corinthians 12:18,28

But our bodies have many parts, and God has put each part just where he wants it.

Here are some of the parts God has appointed for the church:first are apostles, second are prophets, third are teachers, then those who do miracles, those who have the gift of healing, those who can help others, those who have the gift of leadership, those who speak in unknown languages.

When the bible says we are the body of Christ it means we each have a duty and function.

All parts of the body are important.

Which part of your body can you freely give away?

This shows how important all parts of the body are.

You are important!

So, are you functioning as a part of the body of Christ?

One cannot undermine the importance of the local assembly. It is here we fellowship and are able to work as a team to fulfill God's will. Here also we develop our spiritual prowess, find help and help others.

There is therefore the need for us to understand what our assignment is, knowing this will allow us to be relevant to the local assembly and then as the Lord leads us, to the church as a body. Look at the duties of the different families mentioned in the verses.

While some cannot take part in the temple rituals they are yet essential to carry and set up the different parts of the tabernacle.

The fact that you are with the prayer team, the usher, the set up or even helping with cleaning the convenience does not make you less important to the ones who will go up the pulpit to preach, teach, sing or prophesy, NO!

God looks at you according to the place He assigns you, there you receive your reward and of that measure you account to Him.

Romans 12:4-8,10-11

Just as our bodies have many parts and each part has a special function,

so it is with Christ’s body. We are many parts of one body, and we all belong to each other.

In his grace, God has given us different gifts for doing certain things well. So if God has given you the ability to prophesy, speak out with as much faith as God has given you.

If your gift is serving others, serve them well. If you are a teacher, teach well.

If your gift is to encourage others, be encouraging. If it is giving, give generously. If God has given you leadership ability, take the responsibility seriously. And if you have a gift for showing kindness to others, do it gladly.

Love each other with genuine affection, and take delight in honoring each other.

Never be lazy, but work hard and serve the Lord enthusiastically.

Listen, no matter your role or duty you have the Holy Spirit in full measure not just to carry out your assignment but fo live the victorious life and fulfill purpose. Stephen was a perfect example:

Acts 6:2-5,8

So the Twelve called a meeting of all the believers. They said, “We apostles should spend our time teaching the word of God, not running a food program.

And so, brothers, select seven men who are well respected and are full of the Spirit and wisdom. We will give them this responsibility.

Then we apostles can spend our time in prayer and teaching the word.”

Everyone liked this idea, and they chose the following: Stephen (a man full of faith and the Holy Spirit), Philip, Procorus, Nicanor, Timon, Parmenas, and Nicolas of Antioch (an earlier convert to the Jewish faith).

Stephen, a man full of God’s grace and power, performed amazing miracles and signs among the people

He was chosen as a steward to serve food to the widows etc. This did not diminish God's grace and power in Him, it actually increased.

Remember no matter what you are in your local assembly, you are a light to the world. You can do exploits in your school, workplace, neighbourhood etc. You carry God's Spirit and you can hear His voice.

Represent well wherever you find yourself, don't get distracted, don't get defiled or corrupted. Stand out!

Matthew 5:13-16

“You are the salt of the earth. But what good is salt if it has lost its flavor? Can you make it salty again? It will be thrown out and trampled underfoot as worthless.

“You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden.

No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house.

In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.

Remember:

Daniel 7:13-14

As my vision continued that night, I saw someone like a son of man coming with the clouds of heaven. He approached the Ancient One and was led into his presence.

He was given authority, honor, and sovereignty over all the nations of the world, so that people of every race and nation and language would obey him. His rule is eternal—it will never end. His kingdom will never be destroyed.

The kingdom of God is here and it is still near, where Christ rules - and you are part of it. Glory to God!

PRAYER

Dear Heavenly Father help me to be always at my duty post doing that which You have assigned me to do. Lord may I never get distracted or feel irrelevant, instead may I be faithful in my calling, pleasing You in all that I do. Glory to Your name Lord.

He calls us blessed.

Love
