YAHWEH, THE MERCIFUL GOD

Exodus 34:5-7

Then the Lord came down in a cloud and stood there with him; and he called out his own name, Yahweh.

The Lord passed in front of Moses, calling out,

“Yahweh! The Lord!

The God of compassion and mercy!

I am slow to anger and filled with unfailing love and faithfulness.

I lavish unfailing love to a thousand generations.

I forgive iniquity, rebellion, and sin.

But I do not excuse the guilty.

I lay the sins of the parents upon their children and grandchildren;

the entire family is affected— even children in the third and fourth generations.”

One nature of the Heavenly Father is forgiveness, we see it in the scriptures above. We actually learn forgiveness from our Heavenly Father.

When He addressed Moses, He used these words:

"“Yahweh! The Lord!

The God of compassion and mercy!

I am slow to anger and filled with unfailing love and faithfulness.

I lavish unfailing love to a thousand generations.

I forgive iniquity, rebellion, and sin. "

Many who ask why it seems God overlooks some ills and other evil activities of the wicked, should begin to understand from those words, it may seem slow in coming but the wicked will surely be punished.

See the continuation of that verse:

But I do not excuse the guilty.

I lay the sins of the parents upon their children and grandchildren;

the entire family is affected— even children in the third and fourth generations.”

God does not excuse the guilty. They must surely pay for their sins it is only matter of time.

As for the latter part the Lord has already reversed it.

Ezekiel 18:18-20

But the father will die for his many sins—for being cruel, robbing people, and doing what was clearly wrong among his people.

“‘What?’ you ask. ‘Doesn’t the child pay for the parent’s sins?’ No! For if the child does what is just and right and keeps my decrees, that child will surely live.

The person who sins is the one who will die. The child will not be punished for the parent’s sins, and the parent will not be punished for the child’s sins. Righteous people will be rewarded for their own righteous behavior, and wicked people will be punished for their own wickedness.

The earlier verse would want to hold you bound in generational curses, however these has been countered by God's declaration through His prophet in this later verses.

Don't let anyone hold you bound because of the errors or sins of your ancestors, No, it is the person who sins that will pay the price, not you!

This is the reason why Christ came, to bring us back to default, clearing our debt, now giving us the opportunity to begin as sons:

John 1:12-13

But to all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God.

They are reborn—not with a physical birth resulting from human passion or plan, but a birth that comes from God.

God's mercy was fully revealed, the truth about His true nature was revealed:

John 1:16-18

From his abundance we have all received one gracious blessing after another.

For the law was given through Moses, but God’s unfailing love and faithfulness came through Jesus Christ.

No one has ever seen God. But the unique One, who is himself God, is near to the Father’s heart. He has revealed God to us.

So we understand the message proclaimed by the weeping prophet:

Lamentations 3:22-23

The faithful love of the Lord never ends!

His mercies never cease.

Great is his faithfulness; His mercies begin afresh each morning.

This was written at a time when God was seen as God of violence as He allowed the people go into captivity because of their sins and rebellion.

We cannot hide God's true nature, God is love and out of love comes mercy.

May His mercy be expressed on us day after day according to His Word for His love is on us.

Show mercy, forgive, live in love that is the nature of our Heavenly Father.

1 John 4:7

Dear friends, let us continue to love one another, for love comes from God. Anyone who loves is a child of God and knows God.

May we love as the Father loves. May we show mercy as the Father shows mercy. Glory to God forevermore.

Help us Good Lord.

He calls us blessed.

Love
