GOD OF MERCY
Leviticus 5:11
“If you cannot afford to bring two turtledoves or two young pigeons, you may bring two quarts of choice flour for your sin offering. Since it is an offering for sin, you must not moisten it with olive oil or put any frankincense on it.
At the time of giving the law, which is what we will go through in the book of Leviticus, we see instructions on almost every area of life, especially on how to come to the Lord, be it for forgiveness of sins, thanksgiving, passover etc. It also includes instructions on how to treat others including slaves, the poor and foreigners.
These laws may look harsh at the face value of it, however they remained guidelines for the people of Israel as the journeyed through the wilderness and into the promise land.
Today we look at the sin offering. Do we notice that the law put into consideration what a person can afford?
Leviticus 5:6-7,11
Then you must bring to the Lord as the penalty for your sin a female from the flock, either a sheep or a goat. This is a sin offering with which the priest will purify you from your sin, making you right with the Lord.
“But if you cannot afford to bring a sheep, you may bring to the Lord two turtledoves or two young pigeons as the penalty for your sin. One of the birds will be for a sin offering, and the other for a burnt offering.
“If you cannot afford to bring two turtledoves or two young pigeons, you may bring two quarts of choice flour for your sin offering. Since it is an offering for sin, you must not moisten it with olive oil or put any frankincense on it.
God has always been a God of Mercy
He deals with us with mercy and we see it through scriptures before the revelation of Christ and clearly when Christ was revealed.
So when you read the prophet's declaration even before Christ was revealed physically on earth, we should understand that God has always been a God of Mercy.
Lamentations 3:22-23
The faithful love of the Lord never ends!
His mercies never cease.
Great is his faithfulness; his mercies begin afresh each morning.
The mercy of the Lord is revealed afresh on us today as we enter this new day and this new week. May it refresh our body, spirit and soul and cause us to make the right decisions, correct our mistakes and walk in love as we continue in the victorious life we have in Christ Jesus.
Every new day is a new slate, His mercy never comes to an end. The scriptures says that they are refreshed every morning. Halleluyah!
As the Lord has shown us mercy, may we also show mercy to others by walking in love and without hatred or malice.
So help us Good Lord.
He calls us blessed.
Love
@the watcher.
