SUPPORT FROM FAMILY
Exodus 18:5-6
Jethro, Moses’ father-in-law, now came to visit Moses in the wilderness. He brought Moses’ wife and two sons with him, and they arrived while Moses and the people were camped near the mountain of God.
Jethro had sent a message to Moses, saying, “I, Jethro, your father-in-law, am coming to see you with your wife and your two sons.”
For everyone in ministry one of the greatest help is to have support from family.
Many strive because their family instead of supporting, become a burden to them. Jethro was a good example of a supportive family.
Moses left his lovely family to go fullfil God's assignment in Egypt. It was a missionary call. How many today would be supportive of their spouse if ministry takes them to face tough challenges.
Exodus 18:7-9
So Moses went out to meet his father-in-law. He bowed low and kissed him. They asked about each other’s welfare and then went into Moses’ tent.
Moses told his father-in-law everything the Lord had done to Pharaoh and Egypt on behalf of Israel. He also told about all the hardships they had experienced along the way and how the Lord had rescued his people from all their troubles.
Jethro was delighted when he heard about all the good things the Lord had done for Israel as he rescued them from the hand of the Egyptians.
The essence of family is support for one another and the driving force is love. The enemy seems to have been able to penetrate through some families to destroy this great heritage. The Lord will keep us faithful and strong.
Today we see spouses betraying one another even in the homes of elder ministers for divorce has become common. We also see children of supposed ministers living lives that do not please the Lord.
One thing that should not be broken is family devotions and time to worship together. As the adage says: "a family that prays together, stays together".
Exodus 18:12
Then Jethro, Moses’ father-in-law, brought a burnt offering and sacrifices to God. Aaron and all the elders of Israel came out and joined him in a sacrificial meal in God’s presence.
Paul counselled:
Hebrews 10:25
And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near.
May we be of help to one another, may we provide support and not strain or pain.
May our families be filled with love, that though there be conflict and troubles outside, we will continually find love and peace in our home front.
Help us Good Lord.
He continues to call us blessed.
Love
