KEEP RECORDS

Exodus 1:8

Eventually, a new king came to power in Egypt who knew nothing about Joseph or what he had done.

There is an importance for records. Good record would inform the future generations of the reason for the events of the past and give wisdom to them for their decisions on their "today".

Proper record would show the importance of love and cooperation instead of war and hate.

Evils like racisms, tribalism and unjust stigmatization would not reign.

Scriptures records that one reason God chose Abraham was because:

Genesis 18:19
I have singled him out so that he will direct his sons and their families to keep the way of the Lord by doing what is right and just. Then I will do for Abraham all that I have promised.”

Proper keeping record enables us understand the events of the past and avoid making mistakes.

Over the generations after Joseph we see a king who did not know Joseph or his works. This is an anomaly. He began to oppress the descendants of the family that saved his country from extinction during the seven years of famine.

It is important that a nation understands it's history. It will help the young ones to see where they are coming from compared to where they are now.

We have a story in the book of Esther, where her uncle saved the king's life. Everyone seemed to have forgotten this good deed, even while the same king was still alive!

Imagine!

Esther 6:1-3
That night the king had trouble sleeping, so he ordered an attendant to bring the book of the history of his reign so it could be read to him.
In those records he discovered an account of how Mordecai had exposed the plot of Bigthana and Teresh, two of the eunuchs who guarded the door to the king’s private quarters. They had plotted to assassinate King Xerxes.
“What reward or recognition did we ever give Mordecai for this?” the king asked. His attendants replied, “Nothing has been done for him.”

What if there was no record, that good would have just passed unnoticed.

God also keeps records. The scriptures are His record of His plan for man.

Remember our verse for the old testament:

2 Timothy 3:16-17
All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right.
God uses it to prepare and equip his people to do every good work.

Are you keeping records.

A song says:

"Count your blessings, name them one by one
And it will surprise you to see what the Lord has done."

Good record will show how this person and that person had been a blessing to one another thousands of years before time. Their children will learn not to hate one another.

God's record in His word shows us His love for us and His redemption plan through His Son whom we call Jesus the Christ today.

In His records are also great promises and warnings!

Keep Good records.

Make good use of records.

May our Good Records always be remembered.

The Lord give us more understanding.

Love
