WE CREATE THE PROBLEMS

Genesis 29:18-19,23,26-27

Since Jacob was in love with Rachel, he told her father, “I’ll work for you for seven years if you’ll give me Rachel, your younger daughter, as my wife.”

“Agreed!” Laban replied. “I’d rather give her to you than to anyone else. Stay and work with me.”

But that night, when it was dark, Laban took Leah to Jacob, and he slept with her.

“It’s not our custom here to marry off a younger daughter ahead of the firstborn,” Laban replied.

“But wait until the bridal week is over; then we’ll give you Rachel, too—provided you promise to work another seven years for me.”

I always say that almost all the problems we face as humans are caused by we humans. We complicate things that ought to be straight forward. We take decisions and make choices that will become complications later.

Proverbs 3:5-6

Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding.

Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.

We pollute our environment and then ask why sicknesses are rampant.

We take bribes and sell our consciences and then ask God why our society is so corrupt.

We do things for our own personal benefit not thinking about the other person, then we cry foul when the other repel.

Why not explain the culture to Jacob instead of tricking him into marrying one who he does not desire.

The result was:

Genesis 29:30a

So Jacob slept with Rachel, too, and he loved her much more than Leah.

A rift had already began.

We also see the rift between Esau and Jacob because the parents were favourable to one and not the other. (though their battle had started from the womb - Genesis 25:22-26)

Each time we read the scriptures We must not forget the reason for it:

2 Timothy 3:16-17

All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right.

God uses it to prepare and equip his people to do every good work.

1. To teach us the truth.

2. To make us understand what is wrong in our lives.

3. Teach us to do what is right.

4. Prepare and equip us to do every good work.

Christ coming to earth made things that looked complicated by human interpretation of the law, very clear for all to see. The Jewish leaders didn't like it.

John 1:4-5

The Word gave life to everything that was created, and his life brought light to everyone.

The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it.

May God's light shine afresh on us, to remove every darkness caused by our wrong decisions and choices. May we thread straight paths, shining brighter into the coming day.

So help us Good Lord.

He calls us blessed.
