WHEN IT BACKFIRES

Genesis 14:11-12,16

The victorious invaders then plundered Sodom and Gomorrah and headed for home, taking with them all the spoils of war and the food supplies.

They also captured Lot—Abram’s nephew who lived in Sodom—and carried off everything he owned.

Abram recovered all the goods that had been taken, and he brought back his nephew Lot with his possessions and all the women and other captives.

We looked yesterday at the err of Lot. What pride and self consciousness could make people do.

Paul wrote that God gave us scriptures so that:

2 Timothy 3:16-17

All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right.

God uses it to prepare and equip his people to do every good work.

Do we learn from these records? Are we making the same mistakes?

The land that Lot selfishly grabbed from his uncle Abram, whose investment he made wealth from became a torment for him. He was captured along with the people, he was lucky not to be killed.

Who came to his rescue?

The same uncle he did not give reverence to!

Genesis 14:16

Abram recovered all the goods that had been taken, and he brought back his nephew Lot with his possessions and all the women and other captives.

Do we want to talk of Abram's greatness, God was really with him. Going to battle with a king who has just won a war against four other kings with his 318 men trained in his house and defeating them.

Genesis 14:14-15

When Abram heard that his nephew Lot had been captured, he mobilized the 318 trained men who had been born into his household. Then he pursued Kedorlaomer’s army until he caught up with them at Dan.

There he divided his men and attacked during the night. Kedorlaomer’s army fled, but Abram chased them as far as Hobah, north of Damascus.

Do you see the might of Abram's household, yet he did not go to war against his nephew and his household when there was dispute between them. Humility is indeed a virtue.

Lot himself reaped the repercussion of his action/choices. Do you know it did not stop there, more tribulation awaited him for his choices.

We must be careful! We have been warned NOT to leave careless lives, the world is not as straight forward as it seems. Never think for a moment that those who choose the wrong path are having a filled day. It is more than what meets the eye.

Titus 3:8

This is a trustworthy saying, and I want you to insist on these teachings so that all who trust in God will devote themselves to doing good. These teachings are good and beneficial for everyone.

Proverbs 2:20-22

Follow the steps of good men instead, and stay on the paths of the righteous.

For only the godly will live in the land, and those with integrity will remain in it.

But the wicked will be removed from the land, and the treacherous will be uprooted.

Dear Father help us always make the right choices, we trust in You Lord, we will not faint, falter or fall. We win in Christ name. Amen.

He calls us blessed.
