WALKING IN GOD'S WILL

Genesis 24:33,48

Then food was served. But Abraham’s servant said, “I don’t want to eat until I have told you why I have come.”“All right,” Laban said, “tell us.”

“Then I bowed low and worshiped the Lord. I praised the Lord, the God of my master, Abraham, because he had led me straight to my master’s niece to be his son’s wife.

The journey of Abraham's servant to search a wife for Isaac teaches us the essence of walking in God's will.

Jesus said:

John 15:7

But if you remain in me and my words remain in you, you may ask for anything you want, and it will be granted!

The criteria for "prayer answer" is to be in God's will. To change the natural order of things will need the supernatural interference of the divine.

For when you try to interfere with things, superior powers arise to challenge you. However, when you come in the name of the Lord, no higher power exists, it thus comes to pass.

Lamentations 3:37

Who can command things to happen without the Lord’s permission?

Abraham's servant was walking in God's divine purpose so while he was yet praying (in his heart) the answer appeared:

Genesis 24:45a

“Before I had finished praying in my heart, I saw Rebekah coming out with her water jug on her shoulder.

The promise had been made to Abraham, the child had been given to Him. The generation to be brought in by him were to be from a godly woman. Everything was working according to God's plan.

We face certain restrictions because our journey was carved out without God's hand in it. Most times we just move ahead without seeking God's will or guidance and only cry out to Him when we face roadblocks or get into trouble.

It shouldn't be so!

Our steps as God's righteous, should be ordered by Him:

Psalms 37:23

The Lord directs the steps of the godly.

He delights in every detail of their lives.

Is it that God doesn't allow us make decisions? No, however for our good, we make them by His guidance, this is why He released His Spirit to us.

Listen, we know only in part and we thus desire in ignorance. If you think back, you will note some prayer requests you had which will look stupid to you today. It is because our knowledge is limited.  However the Heavenly Father knows the end from the beginning!

Yesterday we looked at good character and being led by the Lord. It is one thing to hear, it is another to walk in obedience. Many claim to hear from the Lord today but when we examine or experience their character we wonder if God's Spirit lives in them.

Another thing we learn from Abraham's servant is "focusing on the goal".

There are always distractions on the journey to the goal, it takes discipline to remain focused.

Many have been sent on assignments but have allowed themselves to get distracted on the way, and have either delayed their destination or have diverted to something else.

Abraham's servant never lost focus:

Genesis 24:33

Then food was served. But Abraham’s servant said, “I don’t want to eat until I have told you why I have come.”“All right,” Laban said, “tell us.”

An old Igbo story tells of a suitor who came for an elder's daughter's hand in marriage. When he arrived at the elder's house after exchanging pleasantries he was offered a good meal. While he was enjoying his meal, another young man came in, he was offered food but he refused and said he must state the reason for his presence. He was given audience and he went ahead to ask for the elder's daughter's hand in marriage. The daughter was invited and she accepted.

The first man who was eating spoke up in shock saying that the same was his reason for coming. However it was too late, the later had chosen wisely while he chose food instead.

How many times have we gotten distracted by the entertainment in a place that we forgot the reason we came.

Many have traveled long distances to get an education, get a better job, learn a skill, get experience, seek for support, start a business, do ministry work or even represent a body but allowed themselves to be carried away by the pleasures in that land

Never lose focus.

Philippians 3:15

So let's keep focused on that goal, those of us who want everything God has for us. If any of you have something else in mind, something less than total commitment, God will clear your blurred vision - you'll see it yet!

The Lord walks with people with character. You as a human may not see them as smart or wise but the Lord is interested in their character and their obedience.

As we count down to the new year, do we know God's will for us, are our plans in His will, are we ready to focus on them?

We will get it right.

So help us Good Lord.

He calls us blessed.

Love
