WAIT ON THE LORD
Genesis 16:2-3
So Sarai said to Abram, “The Lord has prevented me from having children. Go and sleep with my servant. Perhaps I can have children through her.” And Abram agreed with Sarai’s proposal.
So Sarai, Abram’s wife, took Hagar the Egyptian servant and gave her to Abram as a wife. (This happened ten years after Abram had settled in the land of Canaan.)
There is one character that is essential in walking with God, that character is patience. It is key to be able to practice faith and live the life of righteousness and obedience.
All of God's promises are always scheduled for an appointed time, thus there is a wait period. What happens within the wait period is also very important.
In our reading of today we see Sarai, trying to interfere with the wait period. Would you blame her, which woman is happy not to have children for her husband. However, we see that the interference resulted in chaos for her:
Genesis 16:5
Then Sarai said to Abram, “This is all your fault! I put my servant into your arms, but now that she’s pregnant she treats me with contempt. The lord will show who’s wrong—you or me!”
(Ah!)
"2Timothy 3:16-17"
When we do not wait for God's intervention into things that particularly are His prerogative, we could end up creating chaos.
Do we know the trouble Ishmael's generation brought to the descendants of Abram?
Genesis 16:11-12,15
And the angel also said, “You are now pregnant and will give birth to a son. You are to name him Ishmael (which means ‘God hears’), for the lord has heard your cry of distress.
This son of yours will be a wild man, as untamed as a wild donkey! He will raise his fist against everyone, and everyone will be against him. Yes, he will live in open hostility against all his relatives.”
So Hagar gave Abram a son, and Abram named him Ishmael.
It is not easy to wait, talking from the flesh, however it is a virtue of the Spirit. Most of us claim to have the Spirit but His nature is not evident in our lives:
Galatians 5:22-23
But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,
gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things!
We must play and do our part but there are lines we must not cross. For when eventually it comes to pass we do not carry sorrow with it.
We should learn from Hannah, instead of looking for alternatives, she went to war. SHE PRAYED HER WAY THROUGH!
Listen, when the Lord does it, He adds no sorrow to it!
Proverbs 10:22
The blessing of the Lord makes a person rich, and he adds no sorrow with it.
For the Lord said to Habakkuk:
Habakkuk 2:3
This vision is for a future time.
It describes the end, and it will be fulfilled.
If it seems slow in coming, wait patiently, for it will surely take place.
It will not be delayed.
That thing you cried for and longed for finally came, can I ask; how far? Are you still rejoicing in it? Or do you still have complains? Selah
Micah 7:7
As for me, I look to the Lord for help.
I wait confidently for God to save me, and my God will certainly hear me.
Psalms 27:14
Wait patiently for the Lord. Be brave and courageous.
Yes, wait patiently for the Lord.
Help us Good Lord.
He calls us blessed.
