Genesis 25:5-6,9-10

Abraham gave everything he owned to his son Isaac.

But before he died, he gave gifts to the sons of his concubines and sent them off to a land in the east, away from Isaac.

His sons Isaac and Ishmael buried him in the cave of Machpelah, near Mamre, in the field of Ephron son of Zohar the Hittite.

This was the field Abraham had purchased from the Hittites and where he had buried his wife Sarah.

Abraham was a man who lived well, scriptures recorded him to have lived a fulfilled life:

Genesis 25:7-8

Abraham lived for 175 years,

and he died at a ripe old age, having lived a long and satisfying life. He breathed his last and joined his ancestors in death.

He lived 175 years and there was no evil report about Him. He was known for strength yet humble and kind. He was a great man indeed yet he avoided conflicts as much as he could.

He lived in a place where the people did not know the Lord, yet he stayed faithful and taught his family including his servants the way of the Lord.

Why will God not visit Him, why will God not chose Him?

Today everyone claims Abraham's blessings, but how many hold faith as he did. Do we also learn from his life of faithfulness?

This man remained faithful with his wife for more than 100 years even when she couldn't bear him children and only remarried when she died. When argument arose between his herders and that of his nephew (who ought to see him as his benefactor), he played humble, gave him the right to take over the best areas.

He did not shy from battle when it arose to fight to deliver his nephew. He also interceded for his nephew and even the righteous in Sodom and Gomorrah if there was any.

God testified of Abraham that he will show his children the way of the Lord. This was one reason God chose him.

Genesis 18:18-19

“For Abraham will certainly become a great and mighty nation, and all the nations of the earth will be blessed through him.

I have singled him out so that he will direct his sons and their families to keep the way of the Lord by doing what is right and just. Then I will do for Abraham all that I have promised.”

We see Abraham also as a good business man who knew how to deal with people. In his prudent nature he yet had wealth.

When he knew it was time to go, Abraham set his house in order. He did so well to avoid conflict after he left. He knew Isaac was the child of promise, so he separated him from his other children.

We see his good fatherhood for both the son of promise and that of the bond woman took care of his burial. He had even prepared his burial site (recall the wise transaction to buy the land for Sarah's burial)

Genesis 25:9-10

His sons Isaac and Ishmael buried him in the cave of Machpelah, near Mamre, in the field of Ephron son of Zohar the Hittite.

This was the field Abraham had purchased from the Hittites and where he had buried his wife Sarah.

As we end the year what adjustments are we making in and for our family?

We canNot keep doing the wrong things and expect everything to be okay.

You can go for all the crossover programmes you like, however, it is the actions you take after the teachings, blessings and instructions have come to you that will determine how the new year will be.

Help us Dear Heavenly Father to maintain the good works while repenting from that which is not right. Show us the way Lord. All things will work for our good.

So help us Good Lord.

He calls us blessed.

Love
