LESSONS FROM HAGAR

Genesis 21:9-12

But Sarah saw Ishmael—the son of Abraham and her Egyptian servant Hagar—making fun of her son, Isaac.

So she turned to Abraham and demanded, “Get rid of that slave woman and her son. He is not going to share the inheritance with my son, Isaac. I won’t have it!”

This upset Abraham very much because Ishmael was his son.

But God told Abraham, “Do not be upset over the boy and your servant. Do whatever Sarah tells you, for Isaac is the son through whom your descendants will be counted.

The "bond woman" may mock you and look down on you now, for they feel that it has happened for them. Some will ask where is your God that you so faithfully serve. Remember:

Galatians 4:31

So then, brethren, we are not children of the bondwoman, but of the free.

The "bond woman" will not inherit the promise, it is for the free.

John 8:36

If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.

The greatest promise of God to man is in the sacrifice of His Son.

For if there is a suffering for a believer it is only profitable if it is for their faith in God. For we are never to suffer for doing evil or meddling in other people's affairs. Thus if anyone decides to mock us, the Lord drives them away. They are the ones that will leave the scene.

What was Hagar's problem? She was a slave, her master Sarah gave her to Abraham to conceive on her behalf, when she did she began to look down on her master Sarah:

Genesis 16:1,3-4

Now Sarai, Abram’s wife, had not been able to bear children for him. But she had an Egyptian servant named Hagar.

So Sarai, Abram’s wife, took Hagar the Egyptian servant and gave her to Abram as a wife. (This happened ten years after Abram had settled in the land of Canaan.)

So Abram had sexual relations with Hagar, and she became pregnant. But when Hagar knew she was pregnant, she began to treat her mistress, Sarai, with contempt.

We see this kind of behaviour again and again, when people who a woman accommodates goes ahead to hijack their husbands from them. What of those who are brought into a business or business idea, hijacking it from the owners.

Humans, we can be really unreliable most times because of selfishness. We forget so easily.

Backstabbing is not smartness but evil and it awaits judgment!

No matter what happens the child of promise cannot be overtaken by the bond woman, No!

Always remember that God knows what He is doing, our mistakes cannot stop Him. So also the evil of men. God does not have our limitations.

The Lord promises to take care of us, Glory to His name:

Isaiah 54:17

But in that coming day no weapon turned against you will succeed.

You will silence every voice raised up to accuse you.

These benefits are enjoyed by the servants of the Lord; their vindication will come from me. I, the Lord, have spoken!

Stay in the promise zone!

Glory to God, we enjoy His promises. No one can cheat us out of it.

He calls us blessed.

Love
