LEADING THE WAY
Genesis 11:31
One day Terah took his son Abram, his daughter-in-law Sarai (his son Abram’s wife), and his grandson Lot (his son Haran’s child) and moved away from Ur of the Chaldeans. He was headed for the land of Canaan, but they stopped at Haran and settled there.
When we applaud the exploits of those who were recorded for good, we should have in mind the influence of those who taught and raised them.
Reading Genesis 11:27-31, I would want to assume that Abram may not have been the first to receive the instruction to move to Canaan. I reason this way because we see his father Terah begin this journey with him and other members of the family. However, scriptures records that he stopped at Haran.
The influence of proper upbringing cannot be overlooked in the life of faithful people. For as scriptures says:
Romans 10:14
But how can they call on him to save them unless they believe in him? And how can they believe in him if they have never heard about him? And how can they hear about him unless someone tells them?
We must play our roles as carriers of the good news to our children and those under our care, it is our duty to do so. There is no excuse. The extent of what we enjoy in living an upright life was influenced by the good teaching we got from those who took care of us, it is our duty to teach ours too.
2 Timothy 1:5
I remember your genuine faith, for you share the faith that first filled your grandmother Lois and your mother, Eunice. And I know that same faith continues strong in you.
Paul tells of the faith which first dwelt in Timothy's grandmother, then his mother, then in him.
We cannot keep complaining of the corruption and evil in our days. What have we done about it, how are we working/contributing to ensure righteousness reigns starting from our circle of influence?
Are we leading the way by giving good examples?
Are we teaching.
Help us Good Lord.
He calls us blessed.
