GOOD FAMILY HERITAGE

Genesis 19:1-3

That evening the two angels came to the entrance of the city of Sodom. Lot was sitting there, and when he saw them, he stood up to meet them. Then he welcomed them and bowed with his face to the ground.

“My lords,” he said, “come to my home to wash your feet, and be my guests for the night. You may then get up early in the morning and be on your way again.”“Oh no,” they replied. “We’ll just spend the night out here in the city square.”

But Lot insisted, so at last they went home with him. Lot prepared a feast for them, complete with fresh bread made without yeast, and they ate.


When the scripture said:


Proverbs 22:6

Direct your children onto the right path, and when they are older, they will not leave it.


It is not just about leaving physical wealth for your children, they must have a good heritage in character and nature. Build godly virtues in them. Laziness is not a godly heritage, thus they can never be poor.


The good trainings Abraham learnt from his fathers was also rubbed off on Lot. Recall that Terah took Lot under his care when his father Haran(his son) died.


Even if Lot had not learnt humility, he would have learnt it with love when Abraham came with his men to save him when he was captured during the war:


Genesis 14:16

Abram recovered all the goods that had been taken, and he brought back his nephew Lot with his possessions and all the women and other captives.


Listen, it is our duty to bring up our children in the way of the Lord. When they grow up they will decide if they will remain that way or not. The bible is promising us that they will.


We should back them up with prayers. Teach them to pray, to study the word, to live the godly life of the new life we have in the risen Son of God.


They then become equipped to face the temptations, battles and prosperity in this life. You reap the reward here and also in eternity.


Proverbs 19:18

Discipline your children while there is hope. 

Otherwise you will ruin their lives.


Are you doing that good work, are you willing to start today?


Our generation will bring God praise.


Help us Good Lord.


He calls us blessed.

Remember: God is in control.

As we go through the 11th month of this year of accomplishment, let us be reminded. When it seems to hurt so much, or it all looks quiet and alone, when it appears not to work out.
