CIRCUMCISION
Genesis 17:9-10,13
Then God said to Abraham, “Your responsibility is to obey the terms of the covenant. You and all your descendants have this continual responsibility.
This is the covenant that you and your descendants must keep: Each male among you must be circumcised.
All must be circumcised. Your bodies will bear the mark of my everlasting covenant.
When it comes to faith it goes beyond saying it, you have to prove it. The outward show is the evidence of an inward believe, and not the other way round.
God instructed Abraham to circumcise himself and all males in his household and that this will be a continual sign of his convenant with his descendants. This was after he had been proved righteous because of his faith!
The renewed and final covenant was done when Christ Jesus was revealed, the sacrifice was Christ Himself and the circumcision was not of the outward show but the circumcision of the heart by the Holy Spirit.
John 17:3,19-20,26
And this is the way to have eternal life—to know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, the one you sent to earth.
And I give myself as a holy sacrifice for them so they can be made holy by your truth.
“I am praying not only for these disciples but also for all who will ever believe in me through their message.
I have revealed you to them, and I will continue to do so. Then your love for me will be in them, and I will be in them.”
God dwells in us by His Spirit, this is our circumcision.
Paul explains this:
Galatians 5:2-6
Listen! I, Paul, tell you this: If you are counting on circumcision to make you right with God, then Christ will be of no benefit to you.
I’ll say it again. If you are trying to find favor with God by being circumcised, you must obey every regulation in the whole law of Moses.
For if you are trying to make yourselves right with God by keeping the law, you have been cut off from Christ! You have fallen away from God’s grace.
But we who live by the Spirit eagerly wait to receive by faith the righteousness God has promised to us.
For when we place our faith in Christ Jesus, there is no benefit in being circumcised or being uncircumcised. What is important is faith expressing itself in love.
We are not trying to please God, salvation is God bringing us to be His, so we receive a new nature and we teach our body/mind to walk in this new nature.
2 Corinthians 5:17,21
This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!
For God made Christ, who never sinned, to be the offering for our sin, so that we could be made right with God through Christ.
So the circumcision is the new birth, not just an outward sign but a new birth into God's kingdom.
John 3:3,5
Jesus replied, “I tell you the truth, unless you are born again, you cannot see the Kingdom of God.”
Jesus replied, “I assure you, no one can enter the Kingdom of God without being born of water and the Spirit.
Galatians 6:15,17
It doesn’t matter whether we have been circumcised or not. What counts is whether we have been transformed into a new creation.
From now on, don’t let anyone trouble me with these things. For I bear on my body the scars that show I belong to Jesus.
Are you circumcised, have you been born again?
Philippians 3:3
For we who worship by the Spirit of God are the ones who are truly circumcised. We rely on what Christ Jesus has done for us. We put no confidence in human effort,
The new birth is being born into God's kingdom.
Glory to God.
He calls us blessed.
