CHOOSING RIGHTLY

Genesis 24:3-4,6

Swear by the Lord, the God of heaven and earth, that you will not allow my son to marry one of these local Canaanite women.

Go instead to my homeland, to my relatives, and find a wife there for my son Isaac.”

“No!” Abraham responded. “Be careful never to take my son there.

I always say that almost all the problems we battle as humans are created by us.

Our decisions reflect back to us to  either save us from troubles or give us troubles.

Abraham knew the nature of people he lived with. They did not know the Lord and their ways were evil. He could not allow his son marry their women that they do not take his heart away from the Lord. (contrast this from Lot's daughter's fiances)

This is so important, marriage is a covenant, the least one can do is to make it with a believer.

1 Kings 11:2-4

The Lord had clearly instructed the people of Israel, “You must not marry them, because they will turn your hearts to their gods.” Yet Solomon insisted on loving them anyway.

He had 700 wives of royal birth and 300 concubines. And in fact, they did turn his heart away from the Lord.

In Solomon’s old age, they turned his heart to worship other gods instead of being completely faithful to the Lord his God, as his father, David, had been.

This was the wisest man that ever lived, who said:

Proverbs 3:5-6

Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding.

Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.

As wise as he was, the wrong marriage(s) brought him down.

As we approach the new year, what decisions do you have to make, for yourself, your children/wards, business, ministry, career, work etc? Is the Lord leading you in it. Have you considered His word, have you prayed about it, what is the Lord saying?

There are wrong decisions that can be corrected, there are some that are difficult to correct. Choose wisely.

Lord, lead us aright by the power of Your Spirit.

Help us Good Lord.

He calls us blessed.

Love
