A NECESSARY SEPARATION

Genesis 13:14-15

After Lot had gone, the Lord said to Abram, “Look as far as you can see in every direction—north and south, east and west.

I am giving all this land, as far as you can see, to you and your descendants as a permanent possession.

Being good should be your nature it should not just be as a result of circumstances.

In our present days, it seems as if wisdom to many is taking advantage of others.

It does not seem a mere coincidence that the Lord spoke clearly to Abram after Lot separated from him.

I wonder at the character of Lot. He saw an argument arising between his herders and that of his uncle and did nothing about it. His uncle saw this and didn't want any family estrangement sought for peace.

Your uncle and benefactor said:

Genesis 13:8-9

Finally Abram said to Lot, “Let’s not allow this conflict to come between us or our herdsmen. After all, we are close relatives!

The whole countryside is open to you. Take your choice of any section of the land you want, and we will separate. If you want the land to the left, then I’ll take the land on the right. If you prefer the land on the right, then I’ll go to the left.”

What was Lot's reaction:

Genesis 13:10-11

Lot took a long look at the fertile plains of the Jordan Valley in the direction of Zoar. The whole area was well watered everywhere, like the garden of the lord or the beautiful land of Egypt. (This was before the Lord destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah.)

Lot chose for himself the whole Jordan Valley to the east of them. He went there with his flocks and servants and parted company with his uncle Abram.

What a character!

However, many are of this same character. They do not mind bitting the finger that fed them. It is all about getting the best of the things of life (they presume), unhealthy competition even with people who are not their equal in anyway.

Selfishness is a disease!

Listen, it is wisdom to walk in humility.

Let me tell you, that person who comes to apologize to you even when you were the one at wrong, is not a fool. They are indeed the wise one. God never ignores the humble.

James 4:6

And he gives grace generously. As the Scriptures say,

“God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.”

Really the Lot kind of people need to be separated from you.

Yes, especially when they are supposed brethren.

Abram heard God immediately Lot separated from Him.

Genesis 13:14

After Lot had gone, the Lord said to Abram, “Look as far as you can see in every direction—north and south, east and west.

Hear this, you are never a fool to humble yourself, you may look like the victim, but don't worry, time will show how God works, He always has the final say.

Hold no bitterness, instead keep away.

Hebrews 12:14

Work at living in peace with everyone, and work at living a holy life, for those who are not holy will not see the Lord.

The things of these life we wrestle for are vanity. We trade love for pride, prestige, earthly possessions. Oh what foolishness.

Later on we see that Lot lost everything. He found himself trapped with an evil nation and community. He really paid the hard way.

Be good, that should be your nature as a believer. What is it you are fighting for? Do you even know?

May nothing take us away from the Lord. We let go of anything that will want to tamper with the peace the Lord has given us. We walk in peace.

So help us Good Lord.

He calls us blessed.

Love
