SOME WISE SAYINGS

Proverbs 24:23-27

Here are some further sayings of the wise:

It is wrong to show favoritism when passing judgment.

A judge who says to the wicked, “You are innocent,” will be cursed by many people and denounced by the nations.

But it will go well for those who convict the guilty; rich blessings will be showered on them.

An honest answer is like a kiss of friendship.

Do your planning and prepare your fields before building your house.

Reading through these counsels in the book of Proverbs, we look into our society and we see why things are so wrong.

Favouritism, is one thing that has led to wrong people occupying positions of authority and one of the major failures of governments, especially in Africa. For even in a democracy, people are not really elected but they force themselves into power because they can either buy the people that votes or can sway them with sentimental biases such as religion, tribalism etc. They even go as far as using thuggery, maiming and killings to perpetuate their evil desire.

No wonder people heap their manifestos with promises but when they get into power they become lords that are unapproachable or cruel dictators. They never had any good intention in the first place, it was all a selfish desire. When will the supposed masses ever learn?

The second verse continues from the first, letting us see clearly the evil in a corrupt judicial system, where the wealthy and influential get away with doing wrong while the supposed common man gets the hammer for doing the same or worse still committing a milder offence. I have seen this even in supposed religious cycles. It is irritating when their supposed scholars support such evil. Do your wrong, why bring God into it.

Religion is really man-made.

Next, we need to let go of fake friends. Listen, everyone is your friend, in the logic that none is your enemy. Selah

Hebrews 12:14a

Work at living in peace with everyone

The fact is, stay close to those who tell you the truth.

When I watch some talent shows I see people who come forth to present obviously terrible auditions. I feel pained when they say their friends and family told them they were great in the art. What!

Proverbs 24:26

An honest answer is like a kiss of friendship.

Proverbs 24:26 (message)

An honest answer is like a warm hug.

What business do you have listening to one who always flatter you. How do you want to grow and become better, if you are not honestly corrected.

This is different from those who are negative. Criticism is part of encouragement when it is targeted at making you better.

Proverbs 28:23

In the end, people appreciate honest criticism far more than flattery.

Finally on the wise sayings above:

Proverbs 24:27

Do your planning and prepare your fields before building your house.

God has empowered us to sit down and plan. Don't just jump into things. It could be that you see everyone doing it then you follow, No. Sit back and plan it properly, weigh your options, plan your step.

Jesus I believe must have referenced this verse from Proverbs when He said:

Luke 14:28-30

“But don’t begin until you count the cost. For who would begin construction of a building without first calculating the cost to see if there is enough money to finish it?

Otherwise, you might complete only the foundation before running out of money, and then everyone would laugh at you.

They would say, ‘There’s the person who started that building and couldn’t afford to finish it!’

Don't just jump into it, plan it properly that you don't eventually jump out of it.

Your career, you family life, your prayers life, your bible study, your business, your health practices, your feeding . . .make a plan. Best write it down (still working on these though).

God instructed the prophet Habakkuk:

Habakkuk 2:2-3

Then the Lord said to me,

“Write my answer plainly on tablets, so that a runner can carry the correct message to others.

This vision is for a future time. It describes the end, and it will be fulfilled.

If it seems slow in coming, wait patiently, for it will surely take place.

It will not be delayed.

God has allowed wisdom to flood into the world, tinkling down from the time of old. Then wisdom was physically revealed - Christ Jesus. Remember He lives in us by the Holy Spirit.

James 3:17

But the wisdom from above is first of all pure. It is also peace loving, gentle at all times, and willing to yield to others. It is full of mercy and the fruit of good deeds. It shows no favoritism and is always sincere.

"Dear Heavenly Father may we continually walk in Your wisdom that we will not err but prosper in all good things."

He calls us blessed.
