REMAIN IN GOD'S LOVE
John 15:9
“I have loved you even as the Father has loved me. Remain in my love.
Many who started well with the Lord begin to slide down when they become careless with their faith.
Look at these parables of Christ:
Matthew 13:44-46
“The Kingdom of Heaven is like a treasure that a man discovered hidden in a field. In his excitement, he hid it again and sold everything he owned to get enough money to buy the field.
“Again, the Kingdom of Heaven is like a merchant on the lookout for choice pearls.
When he discovered a pearl of great value, he sold everything he owned and bought it!
All of Christ's parable were about not losing it!
This is a food for thought for those who teach, once saved always saved. (I am not saying they are wrong, though!)
So, when we have a good treasure we actually "treasure" it, we do not play around with it.
The issue most times is that people consciously or unconsciously do not know the value of what they have. This is why we have the adage: "you do not know the value of what you have till it is gone"!
So we hear the disciples teaching:
2 Thessalonians 2:14-15
He called you to salvation when we told you the Good News; now you can share in the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.
With all these things in mind, dear brothers and sisters, stand firm and keep a strong grip on the teaching we passed on to you both in person and by letter.
The holding on is where many struggle, for it is all wonderful and blissful when you begin, however when you face the world's challenges, temptations and persecutions many become afraid, some begin to compromise while others just give up entirely.
Jesus said to the church:
Revelation 2:25-26
except that you hold tightly to what you have until I come.
To all who are victorious, who obey me to the very end,
To them I will give authority over all the nations.
Revelation 3:10-11
“Because you have obeyed my command to persevere, I will protect you from the great time of testing that will come upon the whole world to test those who belong to this world.
I am coming soon. Hold on to what you have, so that no one will take away your crown.
Remaining in God's love is walking in obedience.
Jesus said:
John 14:15
“If you love me, obey my commandments.
The evidence of your love is obedience.
You should know that all the law is summarized in the person of God - love!
So when you walk in love, you walk in obedience, love makes you obey.
So, what would take away God's love from you?
Paul answered:
Romans 8:35,38-39
Can anything ever separate us from Christ’s love? Does it mean he no longer loves us if we have trouble or calamity, or are persecuted, or hungry, or destitute, or in danger, or threatened with death?
And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love.
No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.
So that which is telling us otherwise is a mirage, we must stay in God's love - in obedience.
Think back on all the past challenges, they gave way for Christ's victory, the present ones will pass as also will any other one that will arise.
Sing a song of victory today!
Remain in God's love.
Glory to Him who is able to keep us till that day.
He calls us blessed.
Love
