GETTING LEADERSHIP RIGHT

Titus 1:6-7

An elder must live a blameless life. He must be faithful to his wife, and his children must be believers who don’t have a reputation for being wild or rebellious.

An elder is a manager of God’s household, so he must live a blameless life. He must not be arrogant or quick-tempered; he must not be a heavy drinker, violent, or dishonest with money.

Leadership comes on people either by position, election, appointment or even lineage. (Though some struggle to get there)

The first point of leadership is the home. Most of the problems we have in homes occur when the head does not take up his responsibility or when the help meet who ought to help, decides to take over leadership or oppose the leadership. Chaos ensues. It flows this way up to the community, state and even a nation.

The church is not left out.

Thus Paul had to give instructions on how leaders should be picked.

We recall that Moses got the same advice from his father inlaw when he came visiting in the wilderness.

Read Exodus 18:13-26

Exodus 18:21-24

But select from all the people some capable, honest men who fear God and hate bribes. Appoint them as leaders over groups of one thousand, one hundred, fifty, and ten.

They should always be available to solve the people’s common disputes, but have them bring the major cases to you. Let the leaders decide the smaller matters themselves. They will help you carry the load, making the task easier for you.

If you follow this advice, and if God commands you to do so, then you will be able to endure the pressures, and all these people will go home in peace.”

Moses listened to his father-in-law’s advice and followed his suggestions.

The men to be chosen were not just anyone, they had to be proven and also trained. Good leadership reduces the burden, not complicate it, when everyone wants to be in charge chaos is not far. Everyone becomes in charge in respect of themselves.

Truly no one is given authority over another, however structures are in place for the good of all. Without structure chaos is eminent.

Judges 21:25

In those days Israel had no king; all the people did whatever seemed right in their own eyes.

See, the problem we have especially in Africa is our blindness by:

tribe - nepotism;

age;

money;

fame;

sentimentality;

fear;

etc

They are stumbling blocks for building good leadership structures, thus when the foundation is already shaky, the building will always need restructuring again and again.

If we get our leadership right, the rest can fall into place.

Listen:

Proverbs 29:2

When the godly are in authority, the people rejoice.

But when the wicked are in power, they groan.

We live in times when religion is the order of the day.

Instead of changing character to be a better person, we prefer to run here and there looking for enemies against us, when the enemy is actually ourself!

Listen to Jesus:

Matthew 7:2-5

For you will be treated as you treat others. The standard you use in judging is the standard by which you will be judged.

“And why worry about a speck in your friend’s eye when you have a log in your own?

How can you think of saying to your friend, ‘Let me help you get rid of that speck in your eye,’ when you can’t see past the log in your own eye?

Hypocrite! First get rid of the log in your own eye; then you will see well enough to deal with the speck in your friend’s eye.

We do the wrong things and when it begin to backfire, we quickly run to God crying out that our enemies are against us, why not come to God to make you the better person you ought to be instead of wasting time looking for imaginary enemies.

UNTIL WE BEGIN TO THINK OF THE OTHER PERSON(S) AND NOT OURSELVES ALONE WE ARE YET TO KNOW GOD!

Selfishness is a cankerworm that eats into the life of a person that makes them always see themselves in the right light and others as defaulters. They want to get but find it hard to give, they expect sacrifice and submission from people but they have nothing to offer in return. This and other bad characters is what deliverance is needed for. Selah

That is why Jesus said:

Matthew 7:20

Yes, just as you can identify a tree by its fruit, so you can identify people by their actions(character).

Some flood churches praying for a breakthrough but simple things that they have to work on they ignore, things like: good communication, respect for order, punctuality, dedication to work or business, due process and all other characters of integrity that makes a system to work we refuse to follow. Please what exactly do we want God to do for us?

The blame game started from the beginning - Adam blamed the wife, the wife blamed the serpent, the serpent had no one to blame.

Good leadership emanates from good character, you cannot guide someone when you are not guided yourself. You cannot mess up a place and expect to find everything in order. An adage says that "he who brings ant infected wood into his house should not complain when the geckos flood the place".

Enough of spiritual gymnastics, enough of complains, enough of blaming another. Check yourself.

Oh my boss is doing this or that, but you never talk of what you are doing wrong!

My employee or subordinates are doing this or that but you refuse to talk about what you are doing wrong!

Oh the nation is corrupt, but you just received a bribe.

The politicians are liars but you just lied!

What happens to "leadership by example"?

Remember the first person to lead is YOURSELF!

We need to get leadership right so that other things will fall into place.

Help us Good Lord.

He calls us blessed.

Love
