GETTING LEADERSHIP RIGHT 2
Titus 2:1-6
As for you, Titus, promote the kind of living that reflects wholesome teaching.
Teach the older men to exercise self-control, to be worthy of respect, and to live wisely. They must have sound faith and be filled with love and patience.
Similarly, teach the older women to live in a way that honors God. They must not slander others or be heavy drinkers. Instead, they should teach others what is good.
These older women must train the younger women to love their husbands and their children, to live wisely and be pure, to work in their homes, to do good, and to be submissive to their husbands. Then they will not bring shame on the word of God.
In the same way, encourage the young men to live wisely.
To build a community, society or nation of good leadership structure, the work must start from the smallest cell - the home!
It is while people watch as homes are broken, children become wayward and rebellious, spouses disrespect each other, roles are abused and order is disrupted from the very roots, that the society is brought down.
A situation where people honour money/affluence instead of integrity and good heritage, a thief can come up to rule and enslave an entire populace. When values are thrown out for the pockets to be filled, then rights are also thrown out for slavery to ensue, for when power enters the wrong hands the people will suffer.
Proverbs 29:2
When the godly are in authority, the people rejoice.
But when the wicked are in power, they groan.
It is a tragedy to have an evil person or evil people on the throne:
Proverbs 29:4,7
A just king gives stability to his nation, but one who demands bribes destroys it.
The godly care about the rights of the poor; the wicked don’t care at all.
There is a class of people who are quick to shout foul over other people's faults but they are full of evil inside, these kind of people should also not be found in the place of leadership.
They are the sect that Christ warned about, that they say one thing but they do another, they love religious laws, some are even custodians of the law as Jesus described the Pharisees and the teachers of the laws:
Matthew 23:25-28
“What sorrow awaits you teachers of religious law and you Pharisees. Hypocrites! For you are so careful to clean the outside of the cup and the dish, but inside you are filthy—full of greed and self-indulgence!
You blind Pharisee! First wash the inside of the cup and the dish, and then the outside will become clean, too.
“What sorrow awaits you teachers of religious law and you Pharisees. Hypocrites! For you are like whitewashed tombs—beautiful on the outside but filled on the inside with dead people’s bones and all sorts of impurity.
Outwardly you look like righteous people, but inwardly your hearts are filled with hypocrisy and lawlessness.
Truly when the wrong lead, the result is always sorrow.
So we must awake from our slumber, check our media, what is being dished out to this generation and the next after them. What is the content of the broadcast they receive. Are parents still doing their jobs, do they play the first role of the custodian of good legacy?
If we are to have a better society, we are to play our role as the light the shineth, then in our little sphere of influence let us get leadership right.
As we said yesterday leadership begins by leading yourself rightly. The best way to do this is to be led by the Spirit.
Galatians 5:16,22-23,25
So I say, let the Holy Spirit guide your lives. Then you won’t be doing what your sinful nature craves.
But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things!
Since we are living by the Spirit, let us follow the Spirit’s leading in every part of our lives.
You cannot talk of the gifts when the very character (fruit) of the Spirit is not embedded in you.
Matthew 7:21-23
“Not everyone who calls out to me, ‘Lord! Lord!’ will enter the Kingdom of Heaven. Only those who actually do the will of my Father in heaven will enter.
On judgment day many will say to me, ‘Lord! Lord! We prophesied in your name and cast out demons in your name and performed many miracles in your name.’
But I will reply, ‘I never knew you. Get away from me, you who break God’s laws.’
So help us Good Lord.
He calls us blessed.
Love
